Our 3 year was crying tonight asking if he could go and sleep in the tent...got us thinking. Dare we chance a few days away during half term if so where. Don't want to travel too far Was looking at Thornton in Notts

Just take plenty of layers and you should be ok.   Both for sleeping and during the day.

We're going to a site with plenty to do on, including evening entertainment for the kids.    Makes it a bit easier if you can kill an hour or so in a club/child friendly pub for an hour or so before bed.

We've been away at halfterm, in the tent, a caravan and a cottage.   The only thing that defeated us and made us pack up one day early in the tent was the fact that the site became flooded.   It was wet when we went, and the almost constant rain, especially night of torrential rain for hours on end meant that the ground could't cope.  Most people, including vans, gave up that day.

well i spent last night camping in the garden, much to the amusment of most people i spoke to. It was fine, plenty of insulation under our sleeping mats so no cold from below, our usual sleeping bags with a flece liner outside usual pyjamas but with fleece hoody swaetshirt on top so when first in and a bit cold pulled this up over head -mummy sleeping bag will also hep - was toasty all night

did find more condensation in tent but part of that was my not pegging out as well methinks. could have been a problem if raining and on site a while though.

wasn't cold at all this weekend

didn't use my hat, gloves, scarf, thermals, water bottle...etc etc!
