I'm just sitting here feeling absolutely amazed at how much knowledge I have gained in such a short time from being on this site. In August, all I knew about camping was the distant memories of girl guiding days . Then I acquired an incredibly old tent from freecycle supposedly for Ben to mess around in, in the garden and the camping bug was hatched!!
I am so pleased I found this site at that point. All the wonderful advice and information I have picked up has enabled me to make what I think are very good choices, not only in tents but all the other equipment I have accrued ( a bit scary to think 3 months ago the nearest thing to camping I possessed was a pop up tent for the babies to play in in the garden!!
So I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you who have read and found the time to answer all my crazy posts. I do hope as my knowledge increases I will be able to give a little back to new members.
I love this site, I love camping and I love my tents!

Anne, its a bit like reuseable nappies. Until you find the right forum its a real minefield, then some lovely helpful peeps come along and it all amkes sense - but you end up buying alot more than you thought you would!!!
Hi Anne
As you come into the wonderful world of living under canvas in a tent, I have to leave it but what I take with me I shall never forget, from the days just after the war at Rogers Lido knaresborough Yorkshire
Listening to the water running over the water falls while we snuggled into our palyasses filled with straw and pulled the rough army blankets over our heads to stay warm, and to hear the rain beat on the thick cotton duck canvas of our ex-army bell tent. These Are the things I remember as a 7 year old over sixty year ago, and when you young campers, take your children camping in a tent you will give them the type of exiting memories, I have had for the rest of their lives.
You have to be a special type of person to enjoy what sometimes is hard work but once your camp is ready, life takes on a knew meaning, even a bottle of bear tastes better under the sun canopy with the smell of BBQ,ed food cooking.
I hope you and yours will have many happy years under canvas.
All the Best
Rex.

You are not really leaving the world of camping as you have your lovely new TT so still under canvas (and don't forget your gorgeous Cabanon) - I just wish I had lived nearer to you and I would have happily bought your tent, kitchen tent & trailer (perhaps it's a good job I don't really!).
Anyway, thanks for the message and for all the knowledge I have gleaned from your very interesting posts - keep posting on here - especially those wonderful ones crammed full of information abut life under canvas.
Sorry, I'm rambling - should have stopped at 2 glasses of vino!!!

Hi Anne,I am so happy for you as I only joined here last year and love this place,I am a real oldey like rexgrant and could go on and on about how it was when I started some 52 years ago with my Mum & Dad with a club they formed for our nabourhood called pathfinders and went campping and rambling, but since then apart from this forum there was not one that covered all the outdoor activities,I am realy glad you enjoy the people on here, dont stop at 2 glasses start at 1 and cary on till the bottle has gone and then go to where ever you feel,LOL ive had a few beers but dont we all like a drink at home or when we are away.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

It's a fab obsession to have Anne! We've only been camping in our own tent since 2005 and have since accumulated a large shed plus loft full of kit, nine (count 'em!) tents of varying sorts and have had some amazing holidays. I only tend to post on here and the camping abroad boards, but have had some wonderful advice, and hopefully am now able to help others.
Also, we've met some great people on holiday. Definately get a UKCS sticker for your car, we've bumped into other UKCS-ers all over Europe!
Fostermum, I only started posting in August too, and become adicted to camping and this forum....and I second everything you say. I don`t have as many tents as you.....yet, but I`m working on it LOL
I'd also like to reiterate the points made by fostermum! What I like about this site is you can post all day every day or (as I do) "come and go" and perhaps not post for weeks but when you do you are just as welcome!
Really great site, impossibly to say how useful all the information on here has been!
