I bet there’s more like us around. We have decided no more static van holidays. We spent our most miserable holiday in a static van site in Devon this summer with so many vans rammed on the site, our children had nowhere to play. Miserable children =unhappy parents = pants holiday.

We visited my sister on a normal campsite a few miles down and her children had so much room to play and run around and so they had a great time despite the weather.

We thought back and realised that our best holidays were always on campsites and so having raided our savings, we bought a Montana 6, extension, portaloo, beds etc.

We are now looking for a nice coastal site in Cornwall with some facilities and hopefully peaceful at night for the summer.

I have to say we are really excited and can’t wait to start. We will be easy to recognise as we will be the one’s putting the tent up inside out, the wrong way round,on the wrong pitch or even the wrong site.

Thanks for a brilliant site and all those who add to it.

i'm a newbie and started this year and love it, didn't think the wife would like it but shes can't wait for the next trip! this site has helped me a lot too and i've learned so much, and people are alway willing to help and advise.

no doubt you'll  get bitten by the bug (sounds like you already have)and have years of happy camping.

ps i only wish i started when the kids were younger cos i think its brilliant for kids, they're big kids now but still want to come with us cos we enjoy it so much

It's never too late to start camping! Welcome to the forum and a good season to start accumulating all the gear. After camping seasons it's best to buy bargains. But don't fall for the spring lures every other campingstore has come march and April! Stick to what you got and see how that suits you. Adapt to your needs and before you know it you have the first meritbadge or carsticker you can proudly look back onto in ten years.

Not that easy to recognise coz that's how we end up doing it everytime and we've had three attempts now! We're not natural born campers lol but what we lack in experience we more than make up for in enthusiasm. Happy holidays and welcome to a fab forum.

If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

I think we are all now, if not by stocking up an goodies then in our heads, already planning everything for next year.

Doing everything 'wrong' is part of the fun and I'm sure even the most practiced campers don't get it 'right' 100% of the time.

Happy camping, whenit comes.

Johnnydiamond - aren't you off to your pod soon?

Hi & welcome you sound just like us we spent the last 3 years in statics on the Adriatic coast (so at least we had sun) until we were introduced to camping by my best pal and her hubby - we resisted for a long time not knowing what we were missing.  We suddenly realised that we could save at least half the cost of our static hol by going under canvas and have lots of fun doing it!

We bought a Monty and extension and just about every gadget going for our new tent - you will not be disappointed with your choice of tent we love ours.  We are now onto tent number 2 and eagerly awaiting next Spring to get back into the swing of things.
