We have never gone earlier than whitsun and have never been lucky with the weather so haven't been inclined to go any earlier. We willbe trying again at Whitsun 2009 although we wont be going too far.

We're new to camping & next season will be our first in a tent. We've bought a new Outwell Hartford xxl, we need space as there's 6 of us. Due to it being a single skin tent, we thought it might be best to leave using it until the colder months are behind us. When do you start camping & in what sort of tent?

BB

can i say what a brilliant tent you got they are up to any weather . we are goin to polimanter easter so lookin forward to that
[:o)]

That's music to my ears bernie, we have't used it yet & I've been wondering how we're going to get on with it. We're booked on Pentewan for three weeks in august but I would like to have a go over the easter weekend to see how we get on & find out if we need anything else before the three week stint. We'll be guided by the weather.

Thanks again for your reply.

I've just been considering whether or not I'm brave enough to book 4 days camping at Easter with it being so late this year.  We camped in early May in Eskdale last year, but really needed EHU and a heater in the evenings.  It made me laugh last year when people were 'talking' about how great it was to camp early and late season and saying that you were as warm as toast if you wore your hat, socks and gloves in bed and had a trillion blankets!!! If we didn't have the kids it would be nice to spend the evening holed up in a cosy pub with a roaring fire but my idea of fun is not spending the evening sitting by the tent freezing my but off wrapped up like a Michelin man (now, put a couple of planks on my feet at the top of a mountain and I'll put up with any weather!)

we usually start in april. usually about easter. next year it falls on my 40th birthday, so im hoping OH is going to treat me and take me somewhere camping. but we will be taking the heaters as last year we were freezing.
Same here, Easter before last we got sun burnt durring the day but had a frost at night, thank goodness for EHU!

I'm with you on not freezing to death whilst doubling in size with eiderdowns! We did our first ever camping trip in mid-May and froze, despite having a little black cat heater. First (and only - bloody weather) camping trip was in early July last year, and we were just about warm enough. I'm a little bit nesh, I think! We will try again for late May, if the weather holds up.

Going skiing in Feb for the first time and questioning the wisdom of actively and knowingly choosing to be cold on holiday

My camping 'season' never ends, but the wifes stops in late Sept and starts the weekend before Whitsun. Winter kit is different to Summer - just! (the past year or so, anyway!)

Ours begins in April and ends at the end of September because my OH is a wimp and gets cold.  Actually it's more the mud and the rain that put's me off.  Trying to dry my big tent indoors is no easy task.  We have now gone over to the dark side and have a caravan for the winter months.  But only during the winter as it's not the same as camoing although it does have definite advantages.(like I can hitch it up and drive off in the time it takes to get the camping stuff out of the loft, let alone get it into the car.)
