Didn't know where to put this so opted for here bought a pair of Doc Martens and they creak like hell, any ideas on stopping this please folks? I did put some nikwax first.
I've got a pair of Merrels that creak really badly (just the left). Under trading standards law if the shoes are not satisfactory (and the fault is not your own) you are entitled to a replacement. The shop were I got them won't recognise the fault and was very rude. I then spoke to the manufacturer and they instantly offered to replace them.
I guess the difference is Doc Martens are leather and have a one piece sole. These were gortex and the soles made up of panels (that rubbed together). Leather creaks but it depends on how loud and how patient you want to be.
Cheers guys, I bought them mainly for using when I take the m/bike out, I do have proper biking boots but thought these would be more comfortable and to wear when out walking the parks etc...think they'd scare the crap outa the squirrels tho'.
Use two brushes...one for applying the polish and the other for buffing the boots up, Repeat two or three times and they should stop squeaking. Dubbin works quicker but it'll take ages for the boots to return to the desired highly polished state.
I just use it generally to polish mine and also to get inbetween the leather and plastic protective bits round the ankles (we both have Alpinestars). My leathers (I have RST trousers OH has one-piece Kangaroo skin ones can't remember the name of now) also creak a bit but we go to the 'horsey' shop and buy saddle soap for cleaning them and then saddle wax to protect then. It stops them creaking for a little bit.
Polish daily with a good polish, it feeds the leather, if you only polish occasionally the leather gets dry and creaks, i used to wear cherry red docs in the seventies and they weere polished every night, lovely soft leather that you could see your face in
I have just developed a very annoying click on a pair of Brashers boots I bought about a year ago. I am hoping that the strengthening bar (can't remember what the proper name is ,a tang or something) has not broken. But it is really annoying when every step with the left foot CLICK! CLICK! I'll give them another try tomorrow but then I'll have to chase up Brasher because I've not used them that much. It good to have a moan. Dubbin or Nikwax will not help .
