Got a split in my Tent about 3 cm long on the roof during our washed out summer holidays. Only the 4th time i had used the tent, managed to do a temp repair with Duck Tape. Now looking for advice on what glue to use to stick the repair patch I got with the tent (Vango V500).   Any advice please?

I repaired a 2 inch L shaped tear in our tent with tenacious tape. You will find it in most outdoor shops. I used the rounded patches on my tent but you can also buy a 2 inch wide strip for longer tears. Tenacious tape is clear and ready glued. you just apply it to the tear and the repair is almost invisible. I put a patch on both the inside and outside of the tear. Our tent came with repair patches but the tenacious tape makes a much bettter job I think.

I 'll second  Tenacious tape, I did a roof repair with it and its been perfect, been well tested in our so called summer. Tenacious tape is about £5 a strip and worth every penny. Not worth fiddling with glue tbh, its very easy to use, like sticking on a plaster.

It could well be that the patch is like an "iron-on" and already impregnated with a glue to suit the purpose. Seeing as how it is the roof section, I'd try and half the patch, sticking one on the outside and one on the inside thus making the roof as sturdy again as it used to be.

If it isn't "iron-on" pre-glued I'd follow POW's advice and use cycle-tyre glue as it stays flexible. Do make sure the tent fabric doesn't dissolve in the rather aggressive glue, though! A small spot on the tent sack of the same material should make that clear.

Then, invent some good adventure to show off your tents scars. After all, what else if camping than to gather with peers, enjoying a good experience, "shooting the breeze", showing our scars and sharing adventures...

Would certainly go with the others and recommend tenacious tape. We tore the roof seam on our Monty6 right in the corner pulling the pole sleave out at the same time so we had to do a 3 sided repair. We used tenacious tape both inside and out and it has done the job very well considering it is also a stress point.

Let us know how it goes, please. Never tried the product, as my wife used to make tents, so tends to sew the repair (in a similar style as Freebird discribed - a piece of material on both sides) and then we re-seal using Fabsil

I just patch my old tunnel awning with bits of even older awning using loctite clear adhesive.

Thanks everyone

Just a quick update, fixed my tent this afternoon using Tenacious tape. Marvelous stuff so simple to use, can hardly tell it has been repaired. Thanks for the advice. Will keep the tape in our bag in case of future emergencies.
