HI

IM sure this has been covered before, but i couldnt find on the search facility!

We have a Duuo trailer and will soon need the roof box we have too. When the roof box is on the car it is hard to reach etc, is it possible to fix the roof box to the trailer. AT the moment the trailer has a tarpuline type top, we obv want to keep the contents of the trailer dry, so how do you fix the roof box to the trailer and still get to the trailer is it possible. Hope that makes sense

Rob

I made a box lid for my Daxara out of Plywood (£30) and then fixed bars to the lid and my roofbox sits on the bars. I have a picture on my gallery

i had the same problem, and fitted mine on to the trailer.cut out piece of mdf board, covered with tarpulin ,then fitted a batton  round the inside so it fits like a biscuit tin lid,  and then bolted box to board, then to secure it all together use ratchet straps.

You *could* load your trailer, and then cover it as normal.

Then use two thick wooden batons (40mm x 40mm) placed accross the trailer, and sit the roof box on top of the batons.

Using rachet straps through the roof box mountings, loop them underneath the trailer, so that the roofbox is wrapped all of the way around the trailer.

Hope that makes sense....

Hi

We just bought a homemade trailer whch has a large box type lid which has roof bars attached this will take either top box or bikes. Will get some photos on here later this week. There was a really long thread about this last year with loads of piccies of homemade/customised trailers I couldn't find the thread but its worth doing another search cos they were very good. If I find it I'll let you know

i recently acquired a daxara 126 having changed from a cavernous zafira to a more luxurious but less spacious grand c-max, which has a tow bar.

as the roof bars we had for the zafira (which had roof rails) are not compatible with the c-max (which does not), i've repurposed them for the trailer (changing the rubber bits), to which the roofbox (same as scrimboys's) is attached.

not tested it in anger, but it all feels pretty solid, and i'm pleased to be able to reuse some stuff that would otherwise either have to be sold on or pay through the nose for new roof bars.

Because the Trailer will be below the roofline of the car, you can use a Fiamma UltraBox 3, this kind of RoofBox is normally found on Motorhomes etc.

At 520lt and a true box shape, it holds a shed load of stuff, have a look in my Gallery to get an idea of it on a Trailer.

Got mine for £100 used of eBay, Motorhomer's get rid of them, as it is too much of a faff to get on top of the motorhome to access the box.

Silly price new, but they make for a used bargain buy.

have to say that, after much measuring and (for me) high level mathematics, the tent is too big for the trailer :(

as the plan was always to have all the camping stuff kept in the trailer/roofbox (during the season) so we could hitch-and-go at the drop of a hat, it's a bit of a bummer, but at least the tent will fit in the car without any great inconvenience…
