Just wondering if there are any/many (music) festival goers here?
If so, which festivals you plan on going to this year and what tent will you be taking?

I'm just starting to go to festivals again. I did a tiny festival family friendly one called Dare 2 last year with my 2 kids.

This year I've just booked for Trowbridge Village Pump. Chosen because the had an early bird offer on the tickets (young kids free), it's on the way to a short camping trip I was going to do, looks like it'd be OK with kids.

I was going to post about festivals last night. Anyone have tips for camping with kids at them. Dare 2 was only 2 nights, this one I think we can be there for 4 or 5 nights. How to carry gear for 3 people across fields? How to survive cooking and cleaning with a water tap and porta loos??? Couldn't afford to eat at the food stands for every meal.

Hi, hubby and I have been going to V festival for the last three years.  We take our Eurohike Dart tent but buying a new one this year as it got a little damaged last year and I quite fancy a new small tent!! we also take our Vango Ventura 500 for my nephews and their other halves to use.

We are yet to take our two girls to V, my 9 year old wants to come but not sure my 4 year old could stand it for a weekend - we have said we may take them next year if not we may try a more family friendly one with them, to be honest, V is one weekend in the year that hubby and I get to let our hair down without having to worry about the kids - they stay with my parents for that weekend.

Are you going to any?  have you been to any in the past?

We're going to the Big Session and possibly Summer Sundae (both in Leicester) and will be taking our new columbus 4.

Littlebug - we try to travel as light as possible for festivalling, and everyone has to carry something from the car to the campsite! If your kids are young, I'd suggest a potty or bucket to avoid night time trips to porta loos! Wet wipes are invaluable too.

We generally have a light breakfast, cook something like beans, spaghetti (only one pot to wash then!) etc for lunch and buy a main meal at the festival, as it's difficult to keep anything fresh for long, without the luxury of a fridge or ice pack freezing facility!

I was looking on ebay last night at those trolley/cart type things - they have some really cheap ones on there, I see loads of people using them at festivals to get bits to campsite from car - if you search for sack truck on ebay you should get loads coming up, I see one which looked really good for £20 including postage.  Has to be worth it!!

In previous years I have been to the Folk On The Water Festival but unfortunately it is not running this year.

I also go to the Upton Blues Festival. I will go this year, and also to the Upton Jazz and Folk festivals.

We'll be going to Cropredy - have been for the last 5 years, also planning on Shrewsbury Folk Festival this year - have been a couple of times before.

Both of these you take your car to your pitch. For Croppers I'll be using my Argos Tipi, Shrewsbury the same unless weather is bad in which case I'll take the caravan.

Went to Shambala last year with the Outwell Oregon 5 and it did the job fantastically particularly as weather was awful. Used a buggy to get all our kit to the car. I would rather spend a bit more time getting set up than do without useful kit as we went with our 11 month old. Would def recommend a night time toilet solution as the toilets were yuk in the dark and its a fairly clean toilet festival!

As to Shambala it wasnt what I hoped. Lots of great stuff for kids but also too many people off their faces and the bass was banging so loud all night. OK I know it was a festival. I was naive. I thought with it being marketed as great for families there would be some escape from the hedonistic side but there wasnt. Great experience but wont be going this year! Maybe if it hadnt poured down most of the time and thick with mud and our little one was still crawling- urgh. clearly I am not a serious festival goer. I am sure if hadnt had to stay sober I may have liked it more!
