We are experienced campers, have a nice large tent and are planning to our 1st trip with new baby in June - he will be 5 months old.
I am worried about regulating his temperature - it being so cold when he goes to bed, and then so warm in the morning *hopefully!*
We have a transportable Amby hammock, which he is used to sleeping in at home; however you can't use gro-bags or sleeping bags with the hammock. Do you think blankets will be adequate at night? Will he not be too hot in the morning?
we took our baby out camping from 4 weeks old. even though she slept in a baby pod we put a gro bag on her etc
I would use the all in one baby grows the ones with the poppers underneath, maybe a pair of socks underneath and a vest, then use a light jumper for the top and blankets, better to start in layers and take off as needed.

A balanced life is a glass of wine in each hand :O)
I would get one of the fleecy all in ones (Primark have some) and put that over their normal vest & babygrow, put a cotton hat and mitts on and a few blankets you can always take the blankets off if you need to or if he kicks blankets off you will at least know he has sufficient layers on to keep warm!

I used to use an extra wide sleeping bag and bring my babies in with me. I breastfed so it was a doddle at night, and I could keep an eye on their temperature. My Hubby liked a few drinks at night so he had his own airbed and bag, as alcohol is a risk factor in co-sleeping.
We always layer the children up, but take them off if they get too hot. Once they have got cold its hard to get them warmed up again, and when you have they and when you have they are fully awake and will not go back to sleep!! Do keep an eye on them getting too hot though. They will wriggle out of blankets! Grobags are better if you can.
We took our 5 month old for the first time last September to Shell Island. She slept in a long sleeved vest, a fleece gro suit (long arms andlegs) and then hooded a cardigan fastened. Her bedding was the Phil & Ted cosytoe and she slept very snuggly. I unzipped the cosytoe as soon as it got anywhere near warm in the morning. She was right next to our bed in a "Pogy" bed, an open cot type travel cot (fold up to a dinner size plate!). Bought off ebay I think for £20 brand new from a store. Havign the cardigan on we were able to undo if it got too warm etc. Except for one night we never had to alter her clothes.
Hope you have a good time, all that fresh baby will sleep for sure :)
