Hello,

We've just started booking camping holidays for the year (yay) so we are now scouring t'internet for those items that we never got around to buying last year.

One of those items is a carpet for our Vango Aspen 700DLX. Vango handily never made a carpet for the Aspen and then (inexplicably) replaced it with the Zambezi (which also seems to have been discontinued !). However, they did make a carpet for the Zambezi, so two questions about this:

1 - Does anyone know whether it would fit the Aspen ? From floorplans that I have seen, the tent dimensions seems to be exactly the same.
2 - Is the carpet worth buying (seems to be around £70ish) or is it basically a glorified picnic rug ?

I would opt for a different carpet to fit your Aspen. We have a vango carpet for our zanzibar and it is of terrible quality. There has been plenty of talk on here about the quality of vango carpets, I would steer clear and opt for a few picnic rugs, which are far easier to lift and shake outside, or an outwell carpet.

Vango carpets are not good quality for the money.

They snag very easily and become threadbare, and are also not that easy to clean.

I would recommend buying alternatives, you can probably save money that way.

mmm, yes I agree Linda....

I have both an outwell and a vango carpet and by far the vango one is totally inferior.

Would it be possible to get an outwell one and cut it to fit the Zambezi? I know it will be probably be expensive, but it would be worth it IMHO....

whats wrong with a piece of breathable awning groundsheet in your tent...the foam type stuff with holes in it. I use this in our aspen and it was a damn site cheaper than a carpet and I just cut it to fit.

nice and warm to walk on and dead easy to hose down and dry on site during your stay

I have had the same problem, looking for a carpet and groundsheet for the Aspen 500 and Vango replied with zambezi, however that was last year and now they replied with "sorry we don't make them for this model" . Thanks for that!

Having heard the bad reports on quality, will look at an outwell which might fit with some adjustments or picnic rugs!

Any advise would be greatfully received.

I have the Aspen 500 DLX and I bought the Zambesi carpet for it. It fits absolutely fine and it made a heck of a difference to the comfort of our stay in Rhayader, which was otherwise a total washout! It was springy to walk on and insulated the tent well. I had my little gas heater on and was toasty warm. Don't get me wrong, picnic rugs probably would do just as well, and for a heck of a lot cheaper! I can't compare this carpet to other manufacturers as I haven't seen any others, but am I pleased with it? The answer would be a resounding yes!

By the way, I am bemused what has happened to vango's customer service? About 4 years ago, we had an experience with a storm in our Fireblazer 500 (now the venturer or tamor). We were woken by the sound of the poles snapping, such was the almighty wind that had blown up! I called vango to see if I could get replacement poles and they took my name and addres and said they would get back to me. The next day, by Special Delivery, 2 FULL SETS of new poles arrived, one standard and one heavy duty, for my Fireblazer, and not a penny of cost was borne by me! I was never more impressed with customer service than that! So if their standards have slipped, what a terrible shame.

Hi

We have the carpet for our Zambezi 700dlx & it made a huge difference to us & making it a usable space especially at night time when the ground temp drops. The carpet has been well tested by our kids 5 & nearly 2 & has remained in good nick!

I guess it can be described as a glorified picnic blanket but its hardly gonna be like a deep pile (mores the pity ) I would recommend it & it stays in place which I'm guessing wouldn't happen with a few picnic blankets.. x
