Hi Martin, don't worry about it, i didn't take offense lol. I suppose it is quite difficult to gauge someones attitude from a board post!

With regards to sites, it all depends on what your type of sites you like/prefer. As I said before we prefer quieter sites, small family run farms etc. We have visited quite a few of these type of sites all over north wales. Another thing we take into account when looking for a site is budget (everyone's budget is different), I am a yorkshire lass and love a bargain lol!

Maybe if you let me know which areas you are looking at and the type of site I may be able to recommend somewhere.

Hi Claire.

We also prefer quieter sites, all we need is a decent toilet/shower block. But EHU is a must for April comfort. Anywhere from Borth northwards to Prestatyn, ideally within 10 miles of the coast. And price is a big factor for us at the moment so less than £15 per night is a must. (Im on long term sick recovering from a bad leg injury, so pennies are tight).

I did look at that site and rather fancied it until  I saw the price with EHU. £5 for EHU I feel is rather expensive.

Hi Martin, we live just up the road from Prestatyn so haven't camped around the immediate area. One site that may interest you is this one we stayed there last Aug for a couple of very wet and windy nights, but we really enjoyed it. I think we paid about £10pn for 2 adults and 2 kids, it's a little out of the way, but still within a short drive to a lot of beautiful locations and landmarks.

We've been out twice this year already. We don't have EHU (It's dangerous in a small tent and we're too tight anyway), but we're fine. We have an extra sleeping bag to spread over our double and a couple of blankets and I spread my coat over the top. I also wear vest, jersey, 2 or 3 pairs socks, long johns, hat and gloves in bed (basically I only take my trousers off). My partner wears socks and a t shirt if it's really cold. My partner's son uses my downmat (insulated airbed) and my down sleeping bag that's rated for alpine conditions, with a duvet over the top that he can throw off if he gets too hot. We tend to go to bed fairly early in winter, so we catch up on sleep which is an added bonus. I think we went to sleep at 8.30 last Saturday! It was a bit windy in the night and woke us up so it was just as well. We saw a fabulous shooting star the week before, which we would never have seen at home in the city.

What we really need is a good double sleeping bag that is properly rated for winter. Although we have tried zipping 2 down bags together, there are 2 problems:- 1, my partner is asthmatic and suffers with down and 2, I snuggle, so always end up sleeping on the zip.

We are off to Arran on 09 April for a few nights - was a bit worried last week when we had a good few inches of snow and I realised it was only a month until we would be under canvas!  Still, plenty of layers and a couple of gas heaters should see us alright - and if they don't well, we will just pack up and go home!
