Hi all!!

Just whipped Vario 600+ out for an airing and a play, and one of my poles shattered when erecting her.

I had a pole shatter last year too.

Each of the poles were not under excessive stress, i.e. bending/manipulating them to fit the bracing pin in, these were actually further up the pole run.

I was wondering if anyone else has encountered similar experiences or perhaps I've had a bad batch of poles with my year old tent please?

One of the most depressing things i see when on a site is someone getting their pole bag out of the car and throwing it on the ground, this can cause poles to fracture then a little pressure when erecting and snap

I'm not suggesting this has happened in your case, just a warning to all to look after your poles

Looking on the bright side, at least it happened during a "test" run and not while you were on site with dark clouds blowing your way, now you have time to replace it, don't forget to carry spares

Caster,

Gotta say, I treat my poles along with everything else I own, with the outmost respect.

I did explain this to my guy that I bought the tent from.  The shop know us, and trust us to that effect.

This is quite unusual, in the fact that I have owned and recommended Sunncamp for many years.

My guy actually showed me some breakdowns of my much regarded company poles this afternoon and Sunncamp faired the besy of all. Yes, even against the big "O".

He's going to asked the Sunncamp area Rep to do the honourable thing and replace.  What more can I ask?  My local shop are very good!!

I have two spares as standard, however, why use if they are covered for 5 yrs?

Dear Doris Chunksta

I did say it was advice to all, some people don't realise how little abuse these poles can take

Let's hope the rep does the decent thing and replaces them, i hope you never have to use your spares but they are always there just in case

Thanks Caster,

Sorry, it was me replying to your post (my laptop was Dorised!!), and double sorry, I didn't take your post the wrong way, it was how I wrongly worded my reply.

You're right about how people sometimes think poles can take bouncing around and abuse'. However, Im sure the Rep will come up trumps, prompted by a very good family based retailer.  Believe me they are real good people to deal with.

Great heads up on respect for kit and poles especially!!

I have to say that my Sunncamp eden 800 went through a huge storm last year. While i love the sound of rain on canvas as much as the next camper, the tent was turning itself inside out and i was sure a breakage was imminent but other than a couple of broken guy line rings (which i repaired at 2 in the morning with parachute cord), the tent came through it unscathed, unlike some unhappy campers who had to leave their tents screwed up in bins with wrecked poles and torn sheeting.

So far Sunncamp has lived up to all i have read about them
