We have done the abroad thing (pre baby), yes it was nice and hot and we had a lovely time, however I have also camped/caravanned since birth and it just didn't sit right with me, We came home after a gloroius week in Gran Canaria in March a fair few years ago and booked a camping trip for 2 weekends after, got to a very windy rainy site in Blackpool with OH and two other friends, tent blowing all over the place, freezing cold and wet, dodgy campsite dirty toilets but we had a really good laugh! Sat there one night all huddled in a 3 man tent talking and saying 2 weeks ago we we're sat outside on the balcony sipping cocktails watching the sun set but you know what we'd rather be here!
We love camping/vanning and despite remarks from other people and the "you wouldn't catch me in a caravan/tent" folk, we just laugh it off, what these people don't realise is, we don't like snobs on campsites anyway so its just as well we wouldn't catch them in a caravan or tent!!
Happy camping everyone, come rain or shine!

Absolutely no axe to grind with folk who want their two weeks in the sun somewhere..Ive only ever been abroad once..to Portugal..and loved every minute of my two week stay..Over the years Ive often thought about hols abroad..but for whatever reason never got round to it...I love my camping hols..though to be true its not all been sunshine and flowers on some campsites...and I have my horror stories to recount...But on the whole..I think I know what kind of holiday I prefer...Out in the middle of nowhere..peace and quiet..relaxation...and the chance of some night life if I want it..Be that in a tent/caravan/narrowboat(still to try that one??)..Last year for my main hols..I spent more for a weeks holiday than I ever have before...Being a fisherman..I booked into a place in Devon that I had wanted to visit for 20yrs..16 lakes to fish.. Luxuary Villas(and I mean luxuary)Tackle shop and bar onsite games room.. swiming pool.. sauna..spa..etc etc etc..Surrounded by people who share my hobby in the middle of the peaceful Devon countryside..And do you know..thats what made my holiday...The countryside around me!!!...All the other stuff I mentioned were..to my mind..just add ons..Sure I enjoyed the Villa..the pub at night etc..and I know I probably paid over the odds for the priveledge of being there.. but to be sat in such beutiful suroundings..was a great way for me to recharge the batteries...And I think thats the key to the whole camping thing for me..It gives me more chances to be out in the countryside for longer than usual...and more times per year than I could possibly manage doing it some other way...and long may it continue!!!

Jelboy.
