We are having an family camping holiday in July when our grand daughter will be 8 months old any ideas for a bed besides a travel cot.

Hi Maggie!

The easiest thing would be for her to sleep with her Mum - you can get extra-wide sleeping bags. But your daughter might be scared of getting her into bad habits...

Do you have a good old fashioned fold-down carry cot from when your daughter was a baby? If you take the chassis too it would save taking a buggy.

What's the prob with taking a travel cot? Think they're the best solution really. 8 month olds are pretty wriggly in my experience!

Have you considered the Kampa Eazy Junior Air Bed. Outdoor megastore and several other places sell them. Can't tell you how good they are yet tho as we have still to order one.

Ah right are there a lot of you? Small tent? We took one when our LO was small it was ok and took up less space than the airbed he's got now. You can get lightweight camping ones I think.

We've got one of the kampa beds now for our 2 1/2 yr old. Says on them not suitable for under 3's, obviously taking that with a pinch of salt. However think 8 months might be a bit little.

These are 'folding' and come really small, bit pricey though, but you would probably get a good return after you have finished with it if you sold it on. I think they are ok to 18mths.

You can zip them completely in so you don't have to worry about them crawling out. Size wise, comparable with a normal travel cot.

Like the mossy net addition. You would probably need to add extra insulation underneath.

Yes try outdoor megastore (£14) or outdoor world (£16). I only know because i have just bought one I am not a complete camping geek!

I have two Kampa Junior beds and tbh I wouldn't take a young baby in one as the sides although great for keeping a sleeping toddler still aren't deep enough for a baby, my son is 2 and we are umming & ahhing whether he's ready for his at Easter or wait until France. Also what about the mattress surely a 5mth & 8mth old are still at risk of cot death and need a ventilated mattress?

I'm probably gonna be told of for this but when we went and son son was 9mth old we just put him in a pod on his own with the mattress out of a travel cot in baby sleeping bag, fleece babygrow with normal babygrow underneath and blankets over him. He never felt cold and slept really well, and nothing to fall off of
