just bought a mobile internet card and i am shocked at the speed! much faster on the laptop than the wifi network and the network is on a 20 meg line!

still another gadget fro camping and a bargain - £20 off ebay

i bought an internet dongle off ebay for £15 and a 3 broadband chip for a fiver. the card gets you internet for a fiver a month with unlimited downloads.

you plug it in and it downloads the software and your away - mobile internet while tenting!

dead easy to set up, much easier than setting up a wireless network and its faster than i anticipated. I reckon its faster than my wifi network at home!

I have got a 3 dongle and it works quite well. It definitely is not as fast as wi-fi. Are you sure you have disconnected your home wi-fi????????

By the way it is £10 a month not £5 to to top up for 1gb.

I have a 3 dongle too, took the laptop camping with us last year, was great for checking news, weather, maps, etc.

yep its disconnected, but still working fast, as fast as network if not faster. I am in a goodsignal area though and prolly low network use or something. Still its pretty nifty and 1 gb upload and unlimited downloadds for a fiver a month! still swapping to wifi now - no need to waste bandwidth t home :)

Guarantee it actually wont be "unlimited".

There will always be a Fair Use Policy which they will implement if you download too much. Just for web browsing it should be fine though.

I'm currently in a tent using my new orange dongle. It's great, the speed is amazing...I really didn't expect it to work this well. Now I'll be fighting the kids to use the internet in the tent!!!

John, have you tried pinging your home wifi and your new dongle to find out exactly what speed you are getting. you might be paying for 'up to' 20 megs, but actually getting a lot less!

The few places I have taken my mobile BB it hasn't had coverage.
Haven't used it for approx 2 years though, have things got better?
