Hello
The OH and myself are off on our first camping trip this weekend ! And even though we've been using UKCS for the last few weeks as a superb guide to helping us decide which tent and equipment to buy there is one thing i'm still a little unsure about.
Its probably totally obvious or something that doesnt actually happen on campsites, but when you leave your tent for a trip to the beach etc (Kids ofc !) for the day is it safe to leave stoves etc behind with anyway of locking it up? Does theft never happen on a campsite, and if it does, how can you help prevent it?
Thanks !

In many years of camping, I am happy to report that we have never had anything stolen
But it can happen and does occasionally
The main thing is to carry all important stuff with you (money, credit cards, passports etc)
There have been suggestions of tent alarms but the problem with that idea is that if it goes off and the campers are out then it will be wailing all day and driving people crazy. And at the end of the day, if someone wants to get into a tent then all it takes is a knife.
The good news is that the reports on missing stuff are rare and worrying about it will just spoil your break so have a little faith in your fellow campers and try not to worry
It is not unusual for fellow campers to look out for each other (shutting windows if raining etc) so relax and have a good time.
Remember, most campers are considerate and friendly :)

Great sounds good.
I never thought of it like that tho, as your right, you can do what you want with locking the door, its not hard to get through nylon fabric.
Thanks for the quick replies !

Yes we certainly will be.
The OH has been nagging me for the last 8 years of marriage to start camping. And i've always stuck my heels in the ground. haha. But i've caved in and must say, rather looking forward to it.
We booked up yesterday, and she was like a big kid ! Stamping her feet and clapping her hands saying 'We're going camping' fifty times. Jeez, we're taking our 2 and 4 yr old children with us, and I think she is more excited than them !

During more than 40 years of camping I have never had anything stolen from my tent, but when I leave the tent for any length of time I make sure that any valuables are locked in the car.

Excitement is a good thing :)
I still get excited at every trip and we have been camping for a long time lol
The kids will have a great time too. All that fresh air, open space and freedom to run around and explore.
Now I am excited for you lol
Let us know how your first trip goes and posting pics would be cool too :)

Been camping here & abroad too many years. Sure I would clamp bike to a tree or leave insurances & spare cash out of site in the car here & on the continent.
I work on the principle that I am doing wrong by leaving "goodies" in open view whilst I am away. But that the field of campers is small enough for us to become "family" or large enough that so that there is a warden of some kind. Never had anything taken.
