just out of interest is there a darker colour Minnesota 4 carpet out there somewhere? I am convinced the light colour will show up the dirt too much. Can anyone with the current carpet let me know about the dirt issue!

It helps if you have rules about what can be brought into the tent, eg boots off outside.

Also, you may be lucky and find somewhere that is still selling a previous year's carpet. Last summer I bought the 2007 carpet which is darker.

so far on my quick searches I haven't found the darker colour!

Well, I got mine from Camperlands and they didn't adverstise that it was the previous year's stock. Give them a go; they are not a million miles from you.

I got the carpet last August and have used it on 3 trips so far. We haven't had any trouble with it showing the dirt, but as Former Scout recommends, we have been disciplined about taking shoes off before going into the tent - I know this must be harder if you have kids!

well we do try to take shoees off outside - but after a wet 10 days on Mull the tent was so grubby as everything was done inside, hence my ponderings on the carpet colour!!!!

I bought a carpet for the Minnesota before we went on a week's camping trip to Malvern last August - it is a really good addition to the tent and makes it far more comfortable. My better half (who really does not like camping much) thought it was a great idea. We had quite a bit of rain & mud (it was August after all), so I scrounged some cardboard boxes, flattened them out and put muddy shoes on them inside the tent and used them as a path over the mud outside.

Simple but effective! Thanks for that tip Heptamus. I only recently got a tent with a SIG and was wondering how to keep the inside clean without piddling about trying to take my boots off outside in the pouring rain.

Reading this thread did make me chuckle, and reminded me why I don't camp in UK, the last time I went camping in England for my main holiday, was back in 1977!, two weeks in August Cornwall, it rained so much I thought I was camping in the 100 acre wood, anyway that was the last time I pitched for a main Hol in UK, since then it has always been Southern France in July, not that I have been every year, but in over 30 years have not seen a jot of rain, can't wait to get back again next year, certainley won't be packing any wellies!.
