As per my earlier post, very new to camping. Looking around to purchase a cooking stove.
What would be more cost effective Gas or Electric Ring stoves, thinking where we pitch the tent we will always have a electric hook up to feed into the tent or am I being daft about the electric thing or is Gas the best way to go??
EHU's can be unreliable, and I always consider them to be a secondary power source. You cannot guarantee that there will be an EHU point available, and even if there is then if it trips at night you may have to wait until the following morning for it to be reset.
I would recommend using a gas stove as your primary method of cooking, bearing in mind that the electrical supply at some sites is as low as 5 or 6 amps. I would also take at least one gas or battery lantern to use in the event of the electrical supply being unavailable or disrupted.
I agree with Bernie here. Dont buy anything on the assumption that you will have electric. Its better to have a gas hob and battery or gas lanterns. EHU is not always available on all sites for tent campers.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.

If you buy all electric items, then you are limited to only using sites which have EHU. We use EHU for early season trips when we know we'll need heaters (although we still take a gas lamp & little suitcase gas cooker), but we've been on some wonderful campsites which don't have electric - we use gas cooker, gas & UFO lighting, and run the 3-way fridge on gas or take a coolbox with icepacks. Having equipment for both gas & electric, we have a much wider choice of campsites.
gas and batteries for lighting, gas for heating and cooking. we also have electric heater, but sites have very few ehu points and will limit your choice of campsites. Most sites hate gennies (don't mention them on here unless you have a tin hat and a strong personality), so you will be left struggling if you camp on electric.
We have frivolous items for electric to increase comfort (mini oven, fridge, tv and sat system), nothing is essential on that list though....
Oil lamps for lighting...alcohol stove for cooking..If you look on Youtube for *alcohol burner* they'll tell you how to make one for pennies, out of various materials such as a soft drinks can or copper tubing. For a cooker stand you can make one out of an empty catering can of baked beans or such like.
