I think that you can get idiots on any site - the big thing is if those in charge actually do anything.
I was on one site and a lad from the family oposite must have done somthing untoward the night before, because in the morning the warden appeared and asked the family to leave.    Boy did the mum give the lad an earbashing.     Got the feeling that he was grounded for life - and was in for another earbashing from dad when he got home.

I couldnt wear the 'neighbours' of the original poster. Id demand the site owner removed them if it continued. If they wouldnt remove them, id have to go myself, demanding a refund (which id probably not get)....but id leave the appropriate review for them anywhere i could!

The Gallaghers must camp a lot as I think they were pitched 50 yards from us last weekend at Gibraltar Farm, Silverdale. Oh I do love a bit of Rod Stewart at full volume on the car stereo at 7am.

And why do they have to scream at the top of their voices even when the person is standing next to them?

Quote of the weekend from their 9 yr old, "Mum, dad says if he looks at me again I can punch him hard in the back."

Lovely!

This can ruin a holiday can't it. We had two caravans pull on pitches across the site road from us two seasons ago, they had a family between them so had to walk a few yards to get to each other. They spent the week going out every day shopping for booze, playing loud music until the small hours & jsut about getting on everyones nerves. The elderly couple next to us were very upset by their behaviour.

They were the same on site last year, strutting around like the rest of us should be glad they were there, thankfully they were well away from us & I'm just hoping they've sold their caravans & taken up going abroad again this year. I certainly won't miss them.

I also think that the more facilitys you have the worse it can get.The larger sites etc.

We never go on school holidays although we have a severn year old, and very rarely do weekends all because of this.

We have been members of the caravan club and camping and caravan club through the years for this reason, (so as the warden can keep a eye on things even when your not there, football and caravan window come to mind)

I check the reviews to way up the sites also.

Surely you can get bad neighbours whatever type of holiday you have, not just camping.  It's the luck of the draw.

A couple of years ago, my Dad and his wife were staying in a ground floor apartment in Spain.  Dad got up in the morning, stepped out onto his terrace and then felt something wet hit his head.  He looked up and two balconies above was a lovely chap urinating.  Lovely...

Wakey Wakey - You are absolutely right. Probably camping is the one holiday that there arent as many bad neighbours. It completely depends on where you go though. As I mentioned earlier. The more "entertainment" and facilities, the bigger chance you'll encounter the cast of Shameless.   Its actually a lot better in the small independant sites, because when you complain, they tend to sit up and take notice as they have a livelyhood to earn. The Haven parks etc usually employ staff who generally dont give a damn.

I have a saying when I go camping - "Less is More" Never let me down yet.   There are great family sites out there that entertain but dont tolerate antisocial behaviour.

One thing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. If you come across a site that does Nothing or very little to stop this kind of family. LET US KNOW VIA THE CAMPSITE REVIEWS. Its the only way we will get them to sit up and take notice.

We have just returned from Filey a day early because of this behavour from our neighbours, they only stayed for one night but that was enough for us.Shouting, screaming and car engines revving at 4am,loud music until the early hours and then Meatloaf blasting out all afternoon.Spoke to the manager on Sunday morning and he had all the car registration numbers of those responsible and asked them to leave that morning,he was threatened himself by one family but that had spoiled our holiday so we decided to come home early.

Perhaps a good behaviour deposit might work, you wouldn't rent yout flat out without security would you? I would happily pay if I thought it might encourage others to respect reasonable limits on site.

Will it be worse this year seeing as how the world and his wife are going credit crunch camping?

Earplugs will be 'de rigeur'!

We're relative newbies to camping and we've also suffered from the bad neighbour problem on both trips.

Last July I visited the highly recommended Sea Barn campsite in Dorset with a friend and our children. It's a pretty site, but our first night was ruined but a neighbouring group of young men, they returned back to their tents about 12am shouting and swearing, and then proceeded to talk through the night about their night out, the language and subject matter was really awful.

We complained in the morning, and discovered from the unsympathetic receptionist that we had two large groups of young single sex camping groups on the other side of the hedge from us. Other campers mentioned to us that that had been noisy all week.

So what happened? The group were given a warning, we were told to call if we were disturbed again. And yes, we were woken up again in the middle of the next night. I did call, about 20 minutes later somebody arrived and told the guys to settle down but it was a good hour of swearing, stomping around, slamming of car doors, etc, before we could all get back to sleep.

We were fortunate that the group left the day after - no, they weren't kicked out, it was the end of their stay. And they didn't lose their behaviour bond. The rest of the holiday was fine, but I'm afraid I won't be booking with Sea Barn again.

Perhaps ukcampsite could set up a list of quiet sites that don't let this sort of thing happen - we are going camping again this summer and I will be gutted if we get another bad encounter!

I agree. A Blacklist of sites that happily take your money then 'run' (away from trouble-makers), would be a good idea!

It seems par for the course these days to behave with as little respect for others as possible. Every morning this weekend I woke up at 6am, my choice, but I like to sit there in peace and quiet watching the world wake up, that is until a Geordie father across from me tells his young son to "shut the f*** up or I'll give you a right *******!!"  This kid was about 6 or 7 years old, is it any wonder the youth of today are generally like they are with parents like this? I have no problem telling these "people" what I think but I chose to keep my mouth shut because I didnt want to wake anyone else up, but he'd probably done that by himself!

On another note, and sorry if I seem to be holding a grudge against our North East friends, I was gob smacked on returning from a trip to the shops to see our parking space occupied by a 2 man tent. We have a Montana 6 which was side by side with our friends tent, to any half intelligent human being it would have been obvious that to the left of our tent was where we parked our car but not to this kind chap who decided to stand there and stare at me when I returned as though to say "tough"

I've a feeling this year is going to be a little less friendly than previous years

Oh...don't say that !!  The trouble we encountered was on an independent farm site...and we've got to know the owners well over the years so it did make things awkward.  I would have understood it if we'd been on a commercial site ( which we would avoid like the plague anyway ! )...but No, these no hopers turned up like bad pennies...sorry, but just thinking about it makes me angry..  I don't care where people come from but I just think a few manners and a bit of blimmin' thought for other people doesn't cost anything.  But they seemed to turn up bold as brass and they were there to have a good rowdy time and beggar anyone else,. !!....it was quite obvious they thought we were 'stuck up'...well, if being polite and quiet and thinking if others is being stuck up then I hold my hands up !!.....

If we'd left we'd have disappointed our daughter...but if it happened again I think I would definately go to the trouble of moving the tent.  My husband wasn;t keen as he thought they'd take it as an insult and we'd come back to our tent slashed one day....you wouldn't have put it past them to look at them !!

I never thought about the credit crunch affecting this, so now I'm a little more worried !!...it was evident they'd been to argos and filled the car full of tacky gear ( no offence to people who buy from argos !! )...but you know.....it adds to the picture !...a cheap sagging tent....and god knows how many air beds they spent two hours with the electric inflator going...!!....( while F'ing and Blinding how long it was taking...them not us !! )....

We're going again to the same site because we love it...only this time we've booked a pitch where there is only one 'neighbour'..the other side is the loo block and water tap...with a fair gap between...so we have only got the one side to worry about !!  Hopefully, it won't happen again - but when I pull up and see a gap next to ours I'm on pins wondering who's going to turn up next...same if someone leaves during our stay...and you think...Oh, Gawd...who are we going to get next ....???

Great - we go caravanning and this year will also be camping to get away from idiot neighbours at home so we really don't want to encounter the same when we're away!  [:(][:(]

We did previously have our caravan on a seasonal pitch on a privately owned park and, apart from one muppet who liked to drink too much, and "exercised" his two dogs by opening the caravan door and letting them go.  We had our water barrel "watered" [xx(] and also our brand new Isabella awning [:x].  The park owners really didn't seem to care so we're no longer spending our money there.   That said, it has now changed hands but I'd be worried that the same idiot would still be there.

We do EHU in both caravan and tent but are members of both clubs and will mostly be using their sites.  Fingers crossed for a quiet summer for all who're looking for just that.
