We're relative newbies to camping and we've also suffered from the bad neighbour problem on both trips.
Last July I visited the highly recommended Sea Barn campsite in Dorset with a friend and our children. It's a pretty site, but our first night was ruined but a neighbouring group of young men, they returned back to their tents about 12am shouting and swearing, and then proceeded to talk through the night about their night out, the language and subject matter was really awful.
We complained in the morning, and discovered from the unsympathetic receptionist that we had two large groups of young single sex camping groups on the other side of the hedge from us. Other campers mentioned to us that that had been noisy all week.
So what happened? The group were given a warning, we were told to call if we were disturbed again. And yes, we were woken up again in the middle of the next night. I did call, about 20 minutes later somebody arrived and told the guys to settle down but it was a good hour of swearing, stomping around, slamming of car doors, etc, before we could all get back to sleep.
We were fortunate that the group left the day after - no, they weren't kicked out, it was the end of their stay. And they didn't lose their behaviour bond. The rest of the holiday was fine, but I'm afraid I won't be booking with Sea Barn again.
Perhaps ukcampsite could set up a list of quiet sites that don't let this sort of thing happen - we are going camping again this summer and I will be gutted if we get another bad encounter!
