I was just curious, but what is the best camping supplies shop that you have been to?
Just thought it would be useful (and give me an excuse to visit them) when i go camping in other areas
We have Go Outdoors, various caravan stockists that sell supplies etc but by far the best is Jacksons at Arley (website doesn't do it justice at all really)
I can recommend Yeomans at Ambleside in Cumbria. They are very knowledgeable unlike, I have found, the staff at Go Outdoors. You only have to look at the video's they have put on youTube on how to erect the tents to see how good they are!
if your ever in the lakes try kendal camping its on an industrial estate out of town think its called endmoor, you could kick the guy in his shins and he would still smile.what they dont stock is not worth having, usually about 20 tents indoor showroom, got a nevada m off him end of last season for 150£ there top people to deal with and not pushy
we dont have many camping stores near us so we tend to get our fix at winfields in hull, they have got an excellent display and loads of camping gear and out door gear, only thing is it costs us £5.40 to get there and back cos we have to pay the bridge toll
------------- A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

Lee Valley - London May

The nearest camping shop to me is about 60 miles away ABC of Swansea , so i buy everything over the net , so the best shop to me is the cheapest one on at the time.
Gotta agree with Jacksons..allways willing to do a deal....bought a Wynnster Buzzard 4 last year asked sales person when does winter sale start....we don't have winter sales as such...but i can knock you a tenner off....time for a visit very soon
living on the isle of wight, we are stuck with a very small Blacks and an equally small millets, and a unit crammed full of stuff that you cant actually see, in an industrial estate.
buying stuff is a logistical nightmare, online , you compare prices, but then come unstuck when trying to work out postage.
some places class us as mainland (which the postal service does, so shouldnt cost more) some places charge more, and most places wont deliver!!!
i REALLY want to go and have a look at loads of tents all up and not have to rely on asking other campers what outfit they have!! but the best we get is a three man tent on display in Blacks!
so...................i rely on reviews
(and am currently in negotiations with OH and millets over a 2008 hartford XXL)
We have Attwoolls near us but tbh they are always more expensive than other shops online even after the p&P.
I was impressed with Winfields recently, ordered a suitcase gas stove and the Outwell folding laundry basket, both were the cheapest online and the P&P was only £2.95, came really well packaged too.
I tend to order from who has what I'm after at the best price.
I recently had a look at forest camping nr Ringwood, nice shop and tent display with very helpful staff.

Domaine du Verdon Castellane and Etoile d'Argens Frejus Aug
I cant speak highly enough of Allweathers on the A127 Arterial Rd, Billericay Essex, staff are lovely great selection on tents & equipment. Website is good but shop better, ask them to match the website price in the shop & they will, or buy various items together and ask for a discount they have never said no to us yet.
What a great place, the two owners run it, they have stock of everything you would need and great advice at good prices. You wont beat the prices from go outdoors etc but for the little extra you get so much more... They also have a great tent display area, which is much better than gooutdoors in Glasgow, I will be buying my next tent from Kingsmuir ...
It's a bit tricky to find as the local council wont allow them to put a sign up on main road, typical!!!!
------------- Its not your job that counts but what you do in your spare time!!
we have gooutdoors(mitchells) at wakefield. kenmar camping also at wakefield. we use to have another which was rentatent at horbury, but they closed down 2 years ago(shame as got most of our early stuff from them) then we have donvalley at doncaster. we are lucky having so many places to get equipment from!

Agree with you there miamia,
We bought our original kit there about 4 years ago and they were really helpful then as well as now and they are only around the corner!!
Also, would highly recommend CAMPING AND GENERAL on Canvey Island, they have a massive indoor permanent showroom and stock (probably) anything you would ever want.
Staff are always helpful and polite and go out of their way to help and have really competitive prices TBH their website does not really do them justice..
We like Go Outdoors too in Wakefield, and when we are away we have found a little camping shop in Filey that sells clothes, sleeping bags etc. they are so friendly and not pushy. We go and spend there everytime we go.
I bought at Easter a Crag Hoper(sp?) winter coat for £35 instead of £100 and because it had lost its belt he let me have it for £30.
Norwich Camping and leisure for us. Fantastic staff and a great range of tents out on the field. (they even let me take a table from the shop and put it in a tent on the field to see if it would fit before I brought it)

I'll second that vote for Camping and General, their store is excellent, and it does have everything you could possibly need for camping and caravanning.
