My OH drives me bonkers,  he's a perfectionist.  Every corner has to be perfect and every guyline tensioned correctly and pegged perfectly, drives me BATTY.  He says I will be grateful if we have a bad storm as we will be the only ones still with a perfectly pitched tent.  Me, I'm a tad slapdash when it comes to pitching, near enough is good enough.  That's why I'm not allowed to help anymore.  I have to hold poles with the daughter!  I can unpack two bedrooms, two cases, lights, heat, kitchen, dog and toilet, table and chairs all in the time it takes him to peg the guys.  Bloody men honestly!  Worth it when the corkscrew appears and the bbq is warming nicely though!

you have all had me in hysterics, I feel like maybe me and the OH should have a barny when we pitch the tent just to feel like we are real campers on our first trip in May. We did not have one cross word when we did the practice pitch, though we did not put the inners in, so that might cause a fight.

I had managed perfectly well on my own with just DS to help me pitch when DH decides that I'm having way too much fun with my friends and becomes an oracle on all things camping. Out goes the cheap old vis a vis and in comes the glamping camper (have to confess though, I do love it). First pitch was a weekend at Shell Island - me and DS had been to Caseys to pick it up and watch the demo so we knew what we were doing with the cabin but DH decides that the awning is his responsibility and we shall just hold the poles. Despite the pole ends having L & R on them like kids wellies he still managed to get it wrong and although we were humouring him so he didn't look too daft, it was when he swore at the dog for not being in the right place that we just collapsed with laughter. He's got better but it's so much esier when I go on my own and he just comes along later with his fishing gear.

Too be honest, on our first camping trip we didnt have a single arguement whilst putting the tent up !  But then, OH did have the suitcase stove and the kettle out of the car long before the tent was even close to being pitched !

So after the tent is up and the wine is opened or the kettle is on and peace returns is the solution to open the wine befre putting the tent up?
