Today we went to Frensham Garden centre near Guildford in Surrey. We heard it had a fantastic tent display and big shop.

Very good! Lots of tents, mainly Outwell & Khyam. The shop was big with lots and lots of goodies. Excellent coffee shop/restaurant for those moments when you need to sit and have a coffee and decide how much you actually NEED to buy rather than WANT.

Well ..........we need to start saving as weve been pondering on a canvas tent for a while for the colder months. We want one with the same lay out as our Sunncamp Invader as we have footprint, carpet and everything else that fits inside and wont want to purchase all that again. So weve decided on a OUTWELL BEAR LAKE 6. Yum Yum!!!!! Time to start investigating best price as we wont be paying what they were asking!

Are these really as good as they say they are (warm at night)?? Positives and negatives?? All thoughts gratefully accepted.

Great choice IMO have got a BL6 myself

Positives

  • No condensation
  • Warmer in winter, cooler in summer
  • Lots of space
  • Lovely feel
  • Sturdy

Negatives

  • Heavy to carry
  • Large to transport
  • Take about an hour to erect

Something else to think about is whether you are buying the 2007 or 2008/9 model.  The 2007 has two separate sleeping pods and the 2008/9 has one large compartment with a zipped divider.  Personally I prefer the 2008/9 model.

This is the 2007 model showing 2 separate bedrooms (shown on Yeomans website)

This is the 2008/9 model showing one complete bedroom pod with divider and storage pockets

Frensham is an evil place, thats where we went last weekend and we are now the proud owners of a Khyam Montreal, So many tents so little time!

We done the same as you saw what we wanted at Frensham then came home and ordered it online.

Good luck

Thanks for this info, I think you are right about the bedroom preference.  I think we see the 2009 model today.

Oh Justpassing!

I drooled over your pictures of your setup, and had to search to find them all over again to show OH when he came home.  The sun in the last pic just looks lovely.  May I also say that it is perhaps your fault that we (sorry I, my husband does not approve) now have a blowy-up sofa.

However - we too succomed to the delights of the Bear Lake, although we decided to go for the 4.  Haven't tried it out yet - putting it up properly for the first time tomorrow - and can't wait.

I am sooooooooooooo excited to see it in the flesh oops polycotton and we will hopefully be sleeping in it too so should be able to tell you how warm at night it is!

Katie

Yehhhhh, Inflatable sofa is perfect in the morning with your first cup of coffee, looking out of the window, watching others. Let me know how you get on with the polycotton (im envious)

i know the feeling i have been window shopping and have my eye on the outwell vermont XL i just need to convince the OH that its the we need a new tent have not used the one we have apart from putting it up in the yard a few times oh and to save some money to buy it as i can seem to find it for less than £649 so if anyone know of where to get it cheaper maybe that would help convince the OH lol
