Hi jimbouk and Fratts. All the pubs I went in were dog friendly and the Runswick Bay Hotel allows dogs to be booked in with you if you stay there. Yes Fratts. I am very lucky to have had some 'me' time. I needed it.
It sounds like a magnificent place to visit. The link works perfectly and the pictures are astounding to me.I love the way you described the moor being shrouded in so much mist,it sounds really exciting and spooky.I am desperate to go there now.A special thank you for letting us know about the fish and chips, and that they only cost £4.00

Great photo's mantrachant, i went on a week long school trip to Staithes, ooh must be almost 30 years ago, and it doesn't look any different now to how it did then.
I think i'm going to have to take my kids there, thats another place on the must visit list!
Cheers mkn9139. I can assure you, it has hardly changed at all. I first went in the early 80s and apart from the harbour, it looks almost the same. It's lovely. There's an excellent little coffee shop down at the bottom in front of the beach and one at the top of the hill which is just as long as ever to trawl up. The Cod and Lobster pub is still going strong too.
The site also as its own free range chickens so you can buy them off the owners in a morning, now thats fresh. We're going to try the walk to Whitby on the Cleveland Way so I'll post what it's like when I get back in a week or so. We did the Staithes walk a couple of weeks ago and its really nice.
When I was away over the easter weekend with my 2 boys, I thought how nice it would be to get away on my own and you've now got me thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea.
This site you went to looks perfect, would you recommend solo camping and did you have any problems.

Yes Sue. It's still there. It's also still doing brilliant crab sandwiches.I love Staithes as it has refused to bow to commercialism and therefore has lost none of its charm over the years. One problem though. It's not safe to bathe in the sea. Some of the locals were telling me that it's a disaster what's happened to the beach. They blame it on the council and the newly built harbour extension. The sewage is coming back and they have received a final warning or something.Unwise for kiddies to paddle.
URGH gross, I've been swimming in the sea at Staithes!!! Won't be doing that again!

The walk to Whitby is a heck of a lot more challenging than the walk to Staithes! We attempted it on a really hot day a few years back and ended up doing the final leg from Sandsend on the X93 bus!
