Hi everyone, me, my OH and our 2 kids are totally new to this camping lark, we've been thinking about camping for a while now and at the weekend we drove round some campsites to see what we like. And today we went back to look at the tent we had our eye on only to upgrade it to the bigger one! It's the Gelert Horizon 8 and after reading all the reviews here I've made our mind up! We're now waiting for a good deal :s ( we've seen it with a free carpet but we'd like to see a bit knocked off the price! )

I've been totally hooked to this site ALL afternoon and found some invaluble tips as well as having a chuckle

As we don't have a clue what we're doing any advice and help would be gratefully recieved. No doubt I will be asking all those silly questions.

Shaz

Hi and welcome . the horizon is a spacious family tent with good reviews and easy for beginners to put up , sounds like a good choice .

how much is it with the free carpet ?, as some carpets can be ridiculous prices, but they make a big difference to warming the tent up.

Thanks for the welcomes.

The price was £249.99 with free carpet, (the carpet alone was £39.99)

We'd also like the extra porch bit, that was £79.99, good price?

The canopy can be got a bit cheaper here , but check first if its the right colour for the tent your getting.

The £249 sounds fair enough , a quick look on google shows up £220 - £240 for the tent alone . If you buy the tent , carpet and the canopy from the shop you have seen them, haggle, tell them you can get the canopy for £50 online and see if they'll do you a deal, bear in mind , its better to buy from a local dealer, in the event of any problems returns are easier, no postage costs etc .

If the porch was the new style one with the closed in front to it, the price is good at £79

It's the one in the link, is that a new style one?! I've only seen that one.

We will defo try and haggle in the shop, good idea, we didn't think of that but it's worth a go, after all we will be buying more things from there.

Thanks for the info

the one in the ebay link is the tunnel canopy.

But there is a newer one out this year which is similar , also goes on the side , but it has a closed in front. the closed in porch
Tip, lots of camping shops will price match , if you see something cheaper online and in stock, print it off and some will match the price to get you to buy there. As you said , you'll be more likely to be going back for more equipment .

Hi and welcome -  We have the Horizon 8, we love it.  249.99 is a good price with the free carpet....   Saving for a carpet and a porch maybe, altho we do have the canopy thats quite useful.
