Hi,

Just joined the forum, although used the site in the past, a very good resource.

I'm 25 and I've joined up as I'm looking to get into camping a bit more this year!

I'm not entirely new to camping, been into motocross for years which kind of runs alongside camping, be it motorhome, caravan, tent or kipping in the back of a van!

My gf is quite keen to get into camping having been in the army cadets when she was younger. We've had a look at a few tents and found the Suncamp Evolution DL 600 to be our favourite, mainly because of the space inside and how well we thought it used the space (we're both quite tall, so we're looking for a larger tent). Hopefully we will be getting one come pay day so we can try it out at the end of May.

What's the verdict on this tent, had a look at some reviews and found them mostly to be favourable, seemed to have a problem with letting in water but this seems to have been rectified with the later models?

Anyway, thanks for your time and I look forward to using this forum!

Hi Liquid & girlfriend. I have no experience of the Evolution, so I can't help you, but I just wanted to say "Hi, and welcome to the forum"

Hi and welcome Liquid! The evolution is a nice looking tent, the sleeping inner is 210m long so good enough for tall folk and if it fits your needs it would be a good tent.

Have you been in one and poked around?   It's always good to actually see tents in the flesh?

Hi,

We had a look at one at Mere Park garden centre (Newport, Shrops.), they have quite a big outdoor section and tent display.

We liked how light and airy it felt inside (probably as simple as it being light grey in the living quarters with plenty of windows), it seemed to utilise the space well.

Since then I’ve seen one slightly cheaper on the internet at another outdoor centre, so I’m going to see if they can match the price. It’s only £25, but it would help towards buying a bit of equipment!

They are really good at the Newport shop.  (Think they go under the name Outdoor Focus).  We've bought things from them in the past.  They might not price match but if you do have a problem with your tent sending it back to an online supplier will easily cost you that much in postage.  No harm in asking though.  Hope you enjoy your new tent.

Hi Liquid and welcome to the forum, again!

I have the evo 600 which is slightly smaller than the one you are looking at, but haven't used it yet. I did have the evo 400 last year (until the dog trashed it), same again, but only smaller still - 4 man tent. I loved it. It stood up to some wind conditions without any probs. The only grip I have is when it rains and you then open a door the rain runs in. But a simple tarp or canopy would solve this problem I think, just haven't figured out how to do it yet!

IMO it's a good tent.

Yeah, that's the one Outdoor Focus, it's kind of a separate shop within Mere Park. I must say I was impressed with the staff there, they were very helpful and informative, and not in the slightest bit pushy.

I agree with what you say about them being local, hopefully there will not be any problems, but if there are, it's only a 10-15 minute drive away!

I had that problem with the display tent!

It had rained earlier in the day and the water had collected in the canvas (the doors were rolled up for display. Without thinking I unravveled the door and it let the water straight into the tent!

I suppose the design of the tent (steep doors) mean it's something to bear in mind, but on the whole we really liked it.

Just bear in mind we get a lot of rain in this country! I leave an old towel down so it collects the rain, but having two dogs the towel also works as a door map of sorts.

Having said that, when I had the oppertunity to change tents, I stuck with the same design just went bigger. It goes up quite easy and I love the shape. Plus with the windows it is quite light inside.

Yes, when we saw the tent we thought it may be an idea to put some form of a mat down at the entrance, for shoes etc as much as anything although it would be good in order to absorb any accidental water intake.

It’s good to hear you are happy with the Sunncamp tent, we really liked the design of it and how spacious it felt inside. We are looking forward to getting ours and giving it a try!

I have seen that type of tent the only thing that would put me off would be the rain, the top is narrower then the bottom so that would be a potential for rain to drip all over you when it rains.  I had a vango v500 and wouldn't use the side door in rain because of this problem, got more soaked from getting in and out of the side entrance ( there was no where for the rain to be channelled away from the door.  I remember thinking this with the evolution )then from the rain itself!.  So in bad weather I just use the front! If you get chance to check this out!

We very nearly bought the same tent at the begining of the year But it was pipped to the post by our Prism (also made by Sunncamp) The quality of it is great and it looks funky too (So does the prism!!!) loads of headroom and good size bedroom/s - looks like a space ship me thinks LOL.

With regards to the "rain" problem, you could always add the extension that fits over and protects both doors from said problem.... See if you can barter and get a package deal. Don't ask, Don't get and all that.
Good luck
