We're going camping this weekend for the first time in a while.

We've bought a new tent : A Vango Tigris 800, which we're very happy with, I put it up last night in the garden to practise and it went up ok but it's got me worried. It seems very big and i'm not sure it will fit in the pitch, I know a lot of sites aren't keen to have big tents.

It measures - 740 w X 280d , the depth isn't the problem , but we're worried that it might be too wide to put into the pitch we're given.

Should I phone the camp site ? Or do they get funny about these things, or should I just turn up and put it up ?

Any help would be appreciated.

It would be advisable to ring the campsite in question just to make sure , some sites will turn you away or charge you more but it depeneds on the sites.

Call the site.

Remember that you have to add space for the guys too

If the tent wont fit then you will either be charged for 2 pitches or sent away :(

you may have to pitch it side on so that you make the 280 side as the width (hope this makes sense), then you should not have a problem, but always worth ringing if you are worried

Just pitch it side on and you won't have any problems.
As long as a tent is less than 5m wide (yours is only 2.4m) then you shouldn't have a problem getting on to any Club sites and the majority of other sites too. Length, at 7.4m shouldn't be a problem either.

Our tent is 7.5mx3.7m and we have never had a problem.

If you are worried, just give the site a quick ring to double check.

HEJC72 took the words from my mouth. They won't care which way you pitch your tent. My tent is 7.4m X 3.3m and has never had a problem. It's if BOTH dimensions exceed 5m

When I booked a haven site pitch online it said if the tent/caravan was longer than 6.5 m you had to phone up and state dimensions. It was a last minute booking, phone line was closed , so I just took my smaller tent instead.
When I got there I could see why.
Some of the pitches were surrounded with low hedges on 3 sides and edged by the access road, where you had to park the car. so a tent longer than 6.5 would not physically have fitted on the pitch .

Your tent is a tiddler campared with some of the monsters with sleeping pods springing from every orifice. The tunnel is a most efficient design and gives a really good squared area compared with the more fancy designs. Easier to erect as well.
