**********WARNING SERIOUS RANT BELOW************
Well it seems I seriously misjudged a lot of folk on this forum, I honestly believed that most campers were really tolerant and friendly people. My husband drives a Mercedes Vito 08 plate van(6 seater) for work. Are some people seriously suggesting that we would lower the tone of a campsite and they would be upset that we interfered with their view if we turned up at a site with the van? It is far more practical to bring and safer to transport the equipment as it is partitioned off in the back. We have a smart tent (did have Aztec Falcon 8) in the process of buying an outwell Vermont L or montana, we use a separate kitchen tent (Outdoor revolution double), i've been camping for over 10 years and we have 2 small children and a labrador, we live in the countryside (and have all of our lives) are we the kind of people you don't want to be camped near? Will we lower the tone of the site? I have absolutely no problem with the sites that state they don't accept vans, fine we'll go someone else, but I do have a problem with those of you that don't want us on the same site as you.

Rant over it's safe to come out

should have said the van is silver

Now we have sorted the van owners out can we walk up to a set up and ask if they are a member?
I think if i get refused to a site in future i will ask them if they want to see proof of insurance ect.
As for travelers that do some times set up in the midlands they have newer vans than most of us could afford!!

A proud Van owner, with tinted windows( so you couldnt see the crooks in the back as ex police. And you cant fit a plasma tv in the back of most cars!

ha ha ! Kyms....no its not a really a slant on the owners of vans !...I know some very nice people with vans !....its just horses for courses...some of us would just rather look at the countryside ( after all thats the charm of camping ) than a hulking great van....or vans. Caravans of course come with the territory.  If a site was so big it just looked like a carpark at Tescos on a saturday, or a car boot event, I'd turn round there and then.  I think cars should be parked alongside units.  I think this is only an issue if you are on an open field...sites where there are trees or shrubberys breaking up the site are better because then you don't get that problem of looking at a sea of cars or vans.    I only say it because of my experience....having to look at horrible white transit van for one summer holiday...and also in this case, it pulled up and a stream of people got out of it...started playing football....which hit the back of my head and bounced inside my tent !!.....so I suppose psychologically I have an aversion to white vans !  But honestly, don't take it personally its more of an observation than a criticism perse.....

Lol...I wonder what folk thought of me, pulling up in my then rusty old Renault Savanna with a non matching door (fabulous camping car!!) and putting up my 20 year old sun faded TT? Was I lowering the tone of the campsite? I do hope so!!!!!!

Can I join you, our camper is a late seventies model, judgine by the curtains, the canvas is a bit faded, and the PVC roof and hard top discoloured due to age.    Until it was written off Richard drove an L reg Mondeo - we have now upped it to a T reg.
I now drive a bright yellow, R reg Saxo, called Pikachu with Hello Kitty on the side This summer will be arriving on site with things like the boats, bikes etc in a trailer.
Does this make us lower the tone of a campsite?

I have worked with small business for approximate 30 years, and for some a van is their only car.
Put it this way, I have been offered lifts in clapped out old vans,  often having had my bike put in the back, and been driven past by people I know in there latest reg posh car, leaving me getting soaked at the bus stop.    I know who I would rather have as a camping neightbou.
