We are camping at the weekend with our 5 year old and our 2 year old.  Last year when we camped our youngest was in a travel cot with a 2.5 tog grobag and a couple of layers on underneath.  It was also slightly warmer on the occasions that we camped last year.

We take duvets with us when we camp as we do not get on with sleeping bags (we find them to restrictive).  I am not sure if my 2 year old is too young to cope with a duvet or should I put him in the travel cot with a grobag and a blanket.

Any advice would be gratefully received.....

We're camping with our 2 year old as well this weekend (only just 2!).

We use a ready bed for him, rather than a travel cot - it is just realy an airbed with a built-in duvet, but also has 'bumpers' on the sides, so he doesn't fall out.  He was fine just in the ready bed at the end of last summer, but it will be far too cold for him to just sleep under the built-in duvet this weekend.  He will be sleeping in a child's sleeping bag, which rolls up at the bottom, so he can't slip down (although it will go on top of the ready bed).  Lots of extra clothes and blankets as well!

I would think that your little one would be old enough for a duvet (ours uses one at home), but I'd be worried about him wriggling out of it.  Will the grobag be warm enough?  Maybe put him in the grobag AND under the duvet?

Thanks....we have 2 double airbeds so I was going to sleep with him under the duvet so shall be able to keep a close eye on him wriggling out. My only issue with this is I probably wont be going to sleep at the same time as him.

I would put a duvet (or the old sleeping bags opened out if you still have them )on top of the airbed and one over the top of you, if you're not using a sleeping bag . I wouldn't worry about him going to sleep before you, you'll be in hearing distance if he wriggles out anyway.

If he's sleeping with you, just put him under the middle of the duvet, and he'll no doubt be fine until you go to bed.

Will you get any sleep?  I know I wouldn't.  My little boy thinks it's fun to sit on my head and jump up and down!  It's too exciting if he gets to sleep with us. The fresh air should wear him out though!

Another advantage of him on the duvet with you, is that it is easier to keep him quiet if he does wake up early - got the tshirt for that one.

Timpro - Syd sounds just like Alice.    First couple of trips I was worried as she would wriggle out of the bag, and end up on top of the blankets.   After that I decided that she wouldn't do it if she was cold.
