Hi All,

I am on the lookout for opinions for this topic.  Our tent toured Spain & portugal last year and could do with a (a) a good airing and (b) a bit of a clean up and a few minor repairs before we go on hols.

Close to home there is an almost disused park, well they call it a park but it is more like a field. Does anone know if it is acceptable for us to go along, erect the tent for a few hours, sort out what we have to and leave within say four hours? Would be moved off? Do we need permission and if so from whom?

Would really like to get the tent up this weekend and the garden is just not big enough!

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Amanda

Ummm  I don't know - can't see there would be a problem as long as you were not trying to sleep in it.

Round here I would worry about it attracting unwanted attention so we are really lucky that, as we both teach, we have access to school playing fields. Do you know anyone with private access to land?

I hope someone will be along with a better answer soon.

uummm thanks Linny, we had thought we would spend the weekend at the most local campsite to us as other half is working this weekend and would be nice to leave me at the tent and he could then come home to the BBQ, tent and me!  However our local is a C&CC which we are members of, however they were (A) full except for one night and (b) £24 a night for me, other half and dog! Don't you think £24 a night is a bit steep? I realise it is bank holiday weekend but I just want to clean my tent!

Yeah I think 24 is a bit steep BUT it is bank holiday and as they are almost full it seems that people WILL pay it. I have a £25 night max which I think is plenty. You've given me an idea though. I am wondering if (if we asked for permission of course) the head might allow us to camp on the school field tonight. I really fancy it (camping) but I don't want to pay through the nose either.

Yes Indeed, sometimes we just feel we actually want to sleep in the tent, not because we are away from home or any other reason other than just loving to sleep in our tents.  The school field would be great. Good Luck, hope the head will allow it.

I recently purchases a new tent, and thanks to various bits of play equipment no lonager have much room in my garden, so took it along to the local public gardens, and put it up, just to see how to pitch it, and how is it was.    No problem.

Put your tent up in your local park , I bought a new maryland a couple of weeks back and we put ours up in the local park with no bother , and our local park is quite busy as it has a play area for children , had a few kids come up and enquire about the tent but that was it , it was up for about 3 hours , I don't see you getting any hassle over it .

I've seen families in parks during the summer with gazebo's up - all day, would erecting your tent for a few hours be any different. There's likely to be one "do gooder" who will phone someone saying the Pikey's have landed, but if anyone does come to Inspect, if they can see you only have the tent - no sleeping/cooking etc equipment, I'm sure they would see reason.

We have no garden so pitch on public areas if we have to.

Expect an audience, especially kids asking what you are doing lol

Recently purchased new tent, needed to test it locally, so I put out a request on the local freecyclye site, within 10 minutes I had 3 offers, 2 were gardens, the other was a field, the 3 gallery images I took were from the field.

Freecycle rocks !

when we bought our new tent a couple of years back we took it to the local playing feild and put it up there, when we were about done an urban ranger came over and asked what we were doing, when we told him it was a dry run to make sure the tent was ok and to practise pitching he said it was fine and he was just checking that we werent planning on staying overnight,  we have since gone back to the same spot and pitched it to dry it out and clean it before packing it away for the winter.
