know this is a dodgy subject for some , but, we have just bought a tele for when camping in the tent. Would like a decent outdoor aerial. Any suggestions as to what would be suitable,Wev'e tried the indoor ones but havn't had much success with them. Many thanks.

Don't apologise for camping with a tv, as long as you don't disturb other people and you are happy what does it matter?
As i don't have a tv (but don't mind those who do) sorry can't help.

I've been considering the same thing... we've got a USB Freeview adapter for the laptop which needs an aerial, and the knitting needle on a magnet that it comes with is no better than a chocolate teapot.

I used to go fishing a lot, and my fishing brolly pole is solid aluminium with a threaded point at one end... I'm thinking I could use this as an aerial mast (albeit a tad short!) and make some sort of wing-nutted attachment for any standard TV aerial.

I believe I have too much time on my hands... that or I am becoming a camping addict!

We use an indoor type and get excellent reception.(make sure you get one with a high db gain)

Argos

If the site you are visiting has poor TV reception then no matter what you use you will always struggle to get a decent picture.

We bought a three section collapsable pole and aerial from a caravan dealer but it cost £49 ish.  Needed to fit an outside aerial connection and attached the pole to the jockey wheel.  Worked well - then sold the caravan and got a van with an indoor aerial an nowhere to fix an outside connection!

Hi Nessa.

As the country is having all it's Analogue Terrestrial TV transmissions turned of region by region as we speak, it will be harder than ever before to get a signal, this is due to the Government not spending money on the extra transmitters that are needed, so when Analogue Terrestrial has gone there will many pockets around the country with no Terrestrial signal, especialy Camping sites, the Government say this is not a problem as you can use a Satellite dish to get a signal where there is no Terrestrial signal, even though in some areas the Digital Terrestrial signal will be increased to almost 3 times it's current power output, amazing that the Government won't spend on extra transmitters, as they are set to make billions from the sale of the Analogue Terrestrial Bandwith, if I was you, I would be getting a Dish and Sat Receiver. hope that helps.

We use one of THESE. I made an extended pole from old tent poles and fitted the aerial mounting in the top. I guy it hidden away at the back of the tent with a length of nylon cord and it withstood the gales we had last summer. Reception is excellent as long as you remember to mount it in the correct polarisation. I comes with a long length of coax cable fitted.
I left the link, by the way, as an example of the aerial I don't know if this is the best price you'll find.

Pete

We camp with a tv and never have any problems with the same ariel that pjh10 was on about earlier. We use a set of the childrens shelves that we got from Morrisons for about £8.99 and OH has made an adaptor using a pole to slot into the top shelf where the legs go (I'm useless at describing anything) and as long as the ariel is pointing in the right direction (check others around) it is fantastic, and also means it is inside the tent. Don't forget the earphones though as it is awful to disturb other campers, and they also help to keep your ears warm.
