We have a 15" lcd with built in dvd & freeview in the kids playroom & we use that as an occasional camping tv.  We took it at Easter when it got cold in the evenings & the site picked up Cbeebies which had the kids cock a hoop!  I also took it to the Plassey the other week as I was on my own midweek and I needed something to tempt them inside the tent at bedtime.  We don't really bother with it ourselves unless we have to be inside the tent because of the weather when we might watch a film.  We find tv signal varies greatly from site to site - our one for all aerial will generally pick up all terrestrial & itv2 etc but the signal has to be really good for it to get the full freeview selection.

Welcome back John Preece - several search parties were sent out to Cornwall looking for you!!!

Or - plug in a USB TV tuner 17

My brother has a dongle for his main PC at home, he had some trouble getting it to work and get a decent signal. Another option is Sky player online, you can only install it on one pc though, and I should imagine you need a really good wi fi signal too. Link > HERE < if your interested. You would only need your laptop to go online, play games AND watch tv 17

We bought a portable DVD player and it's been great.

We watch a film or something most nights from 9- 11 pm then bed.
We both have earphones though as not to disturb other campers.

Oh yeah, earphones a must for us too. We bought a jack so 2 earphones can be plugged into 1 of the screens so all 3 kids can watch in the back of the car.

Horses for courses,I belong to the old style camping and would never take Tv DVD or laptop, if cold and rainy will play " old fashioned" cards and board games, pac a macs mean we still go out and to me personally canping is getting away from it all, nowadays I do appreciate that to a lot of people camping is a cheaper option for a holiday, and TVs etc are necessary for their enjoyment, all for it if thats what people want,as I have always camped non ehu in sites that are basically no more then fields,It dosent affect me what people take!...but maybe just try going a little more basic one time, its amazing to see the looks on kids faces when discovering nature, and to have them totally worn out after a day of exploration..17

we got the small monitors that attach to the headrests in the car and plug into ps2, great for the long journeys. also if the weather is really bad, we still go out for the day but when we get back, soaked through and very cold. the kids love to have a shower get their jymjams on and snuggle up in bed with a movie (with earphones). also having a pair of screens means that they can go into their own pods with a screen each, leaving me and other half to chilax a little.

We took the sat system down to the Ardeche this year, and to be fair a good few campers had sat systems, but there was somthing sureal about watching corrie whilst relaxing with a bottle vin rouge, sitting outside in the warm evenings, but then comes the best bit, the UK weather report, now that did put a smile on my face!. and definatley added to the holiday experience.

Due to go camping end of August for the first time and we're taking the laptop as a dvd player. If the phone signal is good enough use it my Wi-Fi connection.

X fingers even if it doesn't we can still watch films

But only if boredom strikes we really want to unplug for a week.

Any comments ?????????????????

We've got a small flatscreen tv and satellite box that we take. There's only the 2 of us plus the dogs so it comes in handy in the evenings. it doesn't take up much room either.
