Hi,

Me again, these forums are great! We are thinking about taken our 7month old baby camping for the first time on the next bank holiday weekend. Has anyone got any tips of what is best for her to sleep in and on? I heard that the 'ready beds' are good with a kids sleeping bag?

Thanks paul

If your wife is anything like me, she'll want to keep checking the baby every half an hour (or more) the first night .  Recommend you use a baby sleeping bag (vango do a good one, baby nitestar I think..) and just put the wee one in between you.

When our little boy was a baby, we took the travel cot and put him in a grobag (baby sleeping bag) with lots of extra blankets as layers. Since then tho, we have used a ready bed. You can get a my first ready bed with bolsters on each side to stop the baby from falling out. We have a regular childs ready bed and provided you put something underneath the bed to act as insulation (ie picnic rug) and again, use fleece or woollen blankets as layers, your little one should be fine.
We also found all the fresh air did wonders for a good nights sleep

Hi Archer

There was a thread on here a few weeks ago with a few tips here

Also if you use the search button at the top of page and use key word "baby" there's loads of threads with loads of info (I know coz i've read them all!)

My wife is expecting in September so i will be taking he/she camping next year (bout 9 months old)

Hope this helps

Personally I wouldn't put a 7mth old in a ready bed or on an airbed others may disagree.  I'd stick to the travel cot & blankets with fleecy sleepsuit at that age.

We've just come back form camping with our 7 month old. We used a travel cot. She had a fleece blanket under her then a fleece suit and a sleeping bag. She was toasty the first 2 nights. Sunday night was exceptionally cold (it was 1.5 degrees when I got up at 6) so she came in with us. Have to say baby slept the best out of all my children!

Hi, Newbie here. Been camping for a few years now though.

A good tip for a cheap camping highchair (without tray) is to use a clippasafe dining chair harness on a folding chair, it fits well on mine. http://www.clippasafe.co.uk/rsm/53/products/?stage=view_product&id=6

We first took our youngest camping at 6 weeks, carrycot, grobag, blankets like everyone said. I was bottle feeding but Milton is so easy to use these days and I slept with a premade carton of babymilk so it was at body temp when she woke for a 6am feed, then back off to sleep.

She's now 11 months so taking a travel cot with an a detachable change tray.

Being the youngest of 4 we make everything as space saving as possible, and this chair harness is so small it fits into her changing bag so can be used on the beach with the chair as well. Ideal!
