there will be a lot of ideas for you from other members ,most will say the same as me : first trip with oh .she must be warm or it will be your last trip !!

take duvet from home with a few fleecy blankets for under you and on top of the duvet.

works very well and is warm.

Can highly recommend the Vango Nitestar Square. It's a warmer bag than the Galexy, and it has a hood and shoulder baffles to stop drafts sneaking in. If you're son is younger and is happy with a mummy bag then get him a regular Nitestar 350 with the tapered foot. Mummy bags are warmer than square ends (less dead air space) but obviously, not ideal for zipping together!

Remember to get one left hand and one right hand zip in the square bags, btw. As they have hoods you need to put the hoods to the back when you zip them together. Blindngly obvious, but some folk don't realise!

If your going camping from the back of your motorbike I would recommend you investigate down sleeping bags. Very light and pack nice and small.

Mine is a Robens 3 season down mummy bag - these are expensive but I got mine in the previous years colours at the end of the season and got it for about £80. Ive spent several camping trips with just it and a self inflating roll mat when its been zero and below at night without any problems.

Mummy bags are an acquired taste imho - the night I woke up to find it had turned over completely and the hood was covering my face nearly finished me off! You can get wider ones if you find them a bit claustrophobic.

Doesnt help much when you take the oh, but I have a completely different set up for sleeping when my oh is with me.

We did exactly the same as you and bought sleeping bags from Asda at a cheap price.  They are no where near warm enough and we had to use our old square sleeping bags over the top.  In hindsight we would definitely spend a bit extra on decent sleeping bags.  Nothing worse than being cold at night!
