Hello everyone!

Just seeing if anyone from here is going to Hollands Wood for bank holiday weekend at the end of this month?

We have our first camping trip in our new tent 'Monty 6', very excited and looking forward to it.

What is more exciting is that it will be our 9 month old daughters (millie) first camping trip before our big trip to Annecy.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated?

Craig, Wendy and Millie

Hi Inferno,

Hollands Wood is a beautifull site, the last time we we were there (5yrs ago) It was one of many New Forest camp sites, that were inexpencive at the time.

Today however things have changed, the site is still beautifull.but owend/run by Forest Holidays, Which can mean Expencive, sometimes Very expencive.

We tryed last year,to book for the 3 day bank holiday, were told we had to pay for 4 days, plus sercharge for not being members, plus for children ,plus for hookup ,all in all close to £50 per night,so we did Not stay, and not in any Forest holiday park.

I think travellodge is about that a night, and you are not in a field camping..

The last Bank holiday we did for £20 per night for 2 adults and 2 girls, electric hookup, hot showers, nice toilets and we only payed for the days we were there !!

Hi

It is expensive but nice a couple of points from someone who has camped in the new forest for 20+ years, as it is bank holiday I hope you have booked, make sure you arrive early to get a good pitch it is not marked pitches in the forest. Be careful with the horses they look cute but can still kick and under no circumsatnces leave food laying around in your tent anything open i would leave in the car and do not leave bbq about this encourages them near your tent and it is not fun trying to get a horse out of your tent believe me it has happened to me and then it decided to run of with my bra that i just got out as i was going for a shower i see the funny side now me and horse having tug of war with my bra hubby was in stitches the horses are also clever they seem to no when you are packing up and try and ambush your food supplies i left a crate on a table for a moment a horse stole a loaf of bread . Have strong pegs dont rely on the wire ones you get with hte tent you wont get them in. I learnt this the hard way the first time i camped in the forest i had to go and buy a complete set of rock pegs before i could pitch The main point though is go and enjoy yourself it is a lovely area i hope the weather is going to be good for us all

Hope this is some use

dont pitch down the bottom on the right if possible because if it rains it runs through like a river! look at the ground to make sure its not to washed!

Cheers guys! Yeah we have booked £66 for 3 nights, not bad i suppose. All good advice, especially about the horses and pegs, may have to invest in some new ones, thinking, maybe deltas, have read good reviews about them from this site. Fingers crossed for the weather.

We went there last bank holiday and had a great time Liked it so much thought we'd try another FC but in the Forest of Dean this bank hol.

I went down earlier with my youngest to set up the tent, husband and other son joined us later. The staff on the gates were very helpful at suggesting good places to pitch for us.

Noise wise I think it's better to be on the right hand side of the main track. The left side is nearer a road and can hear cars.

PS in case they read this site, Thanks to the 2 nice people who came and helped me with the tent (all fingers and thumbs that day) and gave my son a packet of crisps to keep him occupied

£66 for 3 nights is a bit of a bargain for a top site! We're staying in Weymouth that weekend for our debut camping, and paying £130 for 4 nights but we do get the indoor swimming pool and other haven amenities. Hollands Wood sounds good for a furure visit though.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

I was a member of cliosport when i owned an Inferno 182, but got a family car (Astra diesel, but very sporty) not quite the same, but will have family over a car any day of the week, will get another in the future (hopefully V6). We are quite pleased with the price that we paid!
