Quilts here... one underneath, one on top.. snuggly! I have a confession to make too.. we often use our electric blanket to warm it all up to start off with too! Well, if you're using the EHU!!! (Is that very bad? It always feels a bit naughty... but oh so warm! I think this makes us glampers..!!)

We pack our quilts into those roll up to expel the air plastic bags - a bit like the ones you can suck the air out of with a hoover, except you just roll it up to squish the air out instead, brill for camping. Used cheap sleeping bags last year, they were awfull!!! Going to use duvet this year. I've already used duvet for garden camping a few weeks ago, it was so much more comfy and slept a whole lot better.

Wendy - I love the idea of adding a whippet or greyhound !!   Unfortunately we only have a cat (far too many claws !!) or guinea pigs (too small!!)

Maybe you could hire our bed warming dogs to us cold campers (only joking, I know they are far too precious for that )

Funny you should post on this, because whilst we were camping over the last BH I vowed to myself that NEXT time I will try the duvet. Like others have said, I hate the feeling of being so enclosed (four layers of clothing on top to keep out the cold AND feeling like a caterpillar was not a good experience for me!) These postings have only served to make me more determined to join the duvet crew!

Duvets for us too. Picnic blanket on floor, then coleman double height airbed, then fleece blanket, then fitted soft cotton sheet, then duvet and fake fur throw..its lovely! But the throw does take up a huge amount of space, so sometimes does get left behind!

The kids all have sleeping bags with a fleece blanket each.

Does the airpump suck enough air out of the vacuum bags? I have only used them at home with the hoover.

For me...thermarest, 4 season bag and reindeer pelt.

For the kids...double airbed, 4 season bags and blankets.

For me the joys of camping is less is more. I've tried both, and can perfectly understand the duvet arguement... there is nothing like your own bed.

But there's nothing like sleeping as close to the ground as possible to feel as one.

I'm not a hippy, honestly.
