The elasticated thread in one of the pole sections for our Outwell Nevada XL has snapped. The section contains around 6 poles that have elasticated thread right thru but this has now come out. Has anyone repaired this sort of thing because the poles themselves are fine?
You can buy a pole re-threading repair kit from most camp shops. It costs buttons, comes with instructions, and isn't too difficult to do in the comfort of your own home. Not so sure about trying it in a howling gale and rain, in the dark though !
just rethread and tie a knot in the end to secure. Singe the end of the elastic in a flame , if its fraying , makes it easier to thread.
If the elastic has snapped , get a new pack and rethread the entire pole. its easier to hold the poles upright, and drop the elastic down through them, than to use the threading wire that comes ina new pack of elastic.
Thanks so much. Will definitely be doing it at home this weekend and will get an extra kit just in case for when we are away. Thanks for the threading tips too they are much appreciated.
have just done one of my poles on our SunValley, I got some shock cord from ebay then sellotaped a wooden skewer to the end and dropped it through the poles, worked a treat. I now have huge roll of shock cord in case it happens again.
i had to do one on my hi gear. had no replacement thread with me so had to make do and mend. pretty easy if you ask me. only trouble i had was when i came to the last one, had to really stretch the cord.
