Hello,

New member here, I have been reading for a while now and havn't come across any posts about camping craft. I remember as a scout we used to build seats, tables, washing stations and the like. Without sounding too ray mears, I am hooked on building or making something that adds to where I am staying! I prefer to go somewhere wild in scotland ( can't see the point in a flushing loo, I have one at home), so need inspiration to furnish my site!

How do you do your campsite? Any ideas are welcome, however nuts they may be!

Thanks

last time we camped the kids dammed and diverted a small steam creating a new island which they reckon they are going to pitch their pop up tent on this weekend, declaring it an independant, adult free province!
Making some sort of ray mears fire pit and heating up stones to bake a fish wrapped in leaves has got to be fun. Most of the stuff I ever build is to do with cooking. The easiest thing is to take a bag of marshmallows with you so you have to make a tosting fork.
As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, so if I were you I would shave down your kit taking out almost all luxuries, that way you will be forced to make things that will enhance your camping trip. Take a coconut with your to snack on the first night and then see if you can make your own bowl/cup to eat your breakfast out of next morning.
Oooh, this sounds like fun, where are you going?

I remember the days when we had to build things as well for camping with the guides. one thing I do remember making were sitters out of newspaper and a carrier bag. its amazing what you remember from your childhood.

As a scout leader I learnt that a case of beer makes a good seat.

Thanks for the comments, I still get the feeling im slightly nuts though! All I want to do as soon as the tent is up is to start 'constructing' things!

Not sure where Im going Claud, I live in Edinburgh and have found a wee resevoir and forest on google earth (great invention) so am thinking about getting permission sorted and taking the rod up for a few days. Maybe that ground oven sounds like a good Idea, just have to catch something first!

I remember these too.  Along with square lashing washing up stands and stakes for putting your wellies upside down on.  We also cooked cakes in a cardboard box.  I think we covered it in foil and built a fire in it or under it?
