Ok, so weve had yet another disasterous weekend away. Last weekend I broke a bone in my foot camping in Glastonbury...and this weekend...Picture the scene.....
Had beautiful day wandering round Lyme Regis. Lovely weather, Ice cream. BBQ, Couple of glasses of wine, bed fairly early around 10.30pm...............
I woke at midnight to find my hubby pacing backwards & forwards in the tent. Whats the matter I asked. Bloody agony he muttered holding his face. Why? Toothache from the earlier Ice cream. I sat up feeling slightly rough after being dragged from a deep sleep. But thought he neded some kind of sympathy. Painkillers I said. Weve run out he said. Oh dear..........
So he wet up to the washblock to find someone, anyone. But it was like a ghost town. He came back close to tears. What am I gonna do he said. We could drive to a local garage I said. I might be over the limit he said, head in his hands, I could see he was suffering. Well, try some neat vodka on it I said, Ive seen it in films and it always works as an anesethic. So he did.
I nodded off for half an hour and woke to find him sitting in the chair with the vodka bottle in his lap like an alcoholic... How much have you had I asked. Only a mouthfull, but it hasnt touched it he grumbled. We need to go out and find somewhere open......So we sat in our tent until 3am, him in agony, waiting until we knew he wasnt over the limit. (I dont drive a manual car otherwise I would have drove)
We dreaded starting the car in a field full of tents, so he rolled it half way, but had to start the engine eventually and off we went. I checked the map. We were in the middle of nowhere so suggested Yeovil & put on the Satnav. It told us to go off the main road...I was dubious as fog had started to close in over the fields.
I can honestly say I have never been so worried in all my life as we drove along, pitch black, deep fog, tiny country lanes, high hedges, hubby groaning in agony. Sat Nav sending us deeper and deeper into the country in thick fog.
We drove a total of 38 miles there & back to find an open garage, just for a packet of Painkillers!!!!
Ignored the Satnav on the way back and stuck to main roads. Dumped car in visitors carpark. Crept back to tent for an hours sleep. Woke to find him in a worse state. So, with it being 24 deg outside, sunny skies, everyone around us frying breakfast, 36 hours before we were due to leave, there was us packing away our belongings for the 150 mile journey home. NOT HAPPY! Roads were horrendous. Had to stop a few times as he couldnt stand the pain. I spent most of the time on the phone trying to get him seen by someone.
He needed to see an emergency dentist on B/H weekend back in Reading. Had injections, anesethic, filling, antibiotics.etc. And guess what...he was as right as rain last night.
So today I made him drive me to Frensham Ponds camping display/shop, so I could drool over the Bear Lake 6 that I want. Had BBQ in the garden tonight to finish off the odd weekend in style.
Dont think we are going away again until July. Feeling very deflated. Feel free to cheer me up!
