I've just returned early from my bank holiday weekend camp, had 2 restless nights due to noisy neighbours still partying at 4am so I've booked what will hopefully be a peaceful site for the summer hols!

Staying at Lincoln Farm park in oxfordshire but I noticed this on their site

We ask that you do not use a GROUND SHEET or the environmentally friendly 'breather' type of ground sheet on grassed areas, so that pitch wear is minimised. Tents and trailer tents with older style ground sheets will only be permitted on our specific tenting area.

We've got a tigris 800 with SIG and a footprint.  Does this mean I can't use the footprint?  Any help would be much appreciated.

I would say that this means you need to go in their 'specific tenting area'

I think it is more for caravan awnings (or tents with non sig) though unless the ground is nice and dry it may be a bit dirty.

What next, they will be 'reqesting' we only use 'clear see through' tents to allow light at all times onto the grass. Do these sites want 'Tent' camping or 'shed Draggers' me thinks the latter.........

Even without a sig I think its unreasonable for owners to ask for tents to be lifting there groundsheets in the day and have all there stuff directly on the floor.

I usually take rules like this to be a sign that they dont want tents and wont have facilities geared towards them, such as no washing up sinks assuming that caravanners will use there onboard dishwashers.

However the site you have booked does mention a designated tent area so might be worth phoning and checking what they really want to happen with these?

I think I will give them a ring.  This site does have a tent area and it even has a 'tenters' kitchen with fridge, microwave, washing up area and tables so I think they are geared up to campers.

Thanks for all your help.

Sorry about your noisy weekend clare, I know how you feel - it drove me to despair this weekend.  Hope our next trips are better!

My understanding of this is that they do not allow you to use a footprint and I think this is an unreasonable request , and if this is true when you call the site to enquire then i would cancel my booking and go elsewhere....it's the only way to get them to understand that this rule is wrong.!......just my opinion17

If you have a SIG then surely a footprint as well is no different as far as the grass is concerned?

it means that caravans are not allowed to put a ground sheet of any sort down on the grass sections of their pitch. Tents and trailer tents ie units that do use groundsheets will be asked to go on a specific area, presumably because they have a different grass management plan for that section. The grass round the caravan pitches will remain green while the tent feld will get all the wear and tear. At no point are they saying you can't use a groundsheet...and they don'T even mention footprints because once you stick a SIG down on top of grass, it;s irrelevant as to how many layers there are of it.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me! They're not saying you can't use the Tigris plus footprint, just that you'll be in the area for tents.

If they have got room to move the pitches around on the tent area this gives the grass chance to grow.

On our site in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago i would not have accepted most of the pitches as they had been ruined by continuous use of tents in the same place.

We were charged for using our breathable groundsheet in our awning yet the grass was in very good condition when we left so they do work, but obviously no good for a tent.

If the pitch was in good condition on arrival and we were asked not to use a groundsheet we would not have a problem with this, but who wants to sit in an awning or tent full of mud.

Andy
