Well, my ex husband has done it again,

he has just offered/tempted/taunted my son (12yrs) to a week in turkey in a villa with pool, at the same time i have booked to go to devon in the tent.......... of course my son has said he wants to go with him.   I am devasted........just felt i had to share my bad news with someone/anyone cos i am absolutely hopping mad at the ar****le ( ex , not son )

Oh honey, That is rubbish.  Why could he not take him the week after - at least your son would get 2 great holidays then.  If I was honestly given the choice I would choose camping (did Turkey all inclusive for 2 weeks last year)  I know you can't guarantee the weather here but I find airports and coaches so stressful.  Maybe you could move your holiday slightly.  I know you shouldn't HAVE to but at least your son gets the best of both worlds. AND it would prove to your ex that you are above his pettiness!  Good luck whatever you decide

Did he do it on purpose?

Turns you into the bad guy if you tell them they can't go with their dad doesn't it.

Any chance he can change the date of the Turkey trip since he probably won't have booked it yet.

That way the children would get 2 holidays and you would get another week 'off' and could go camping on your own too.

I would vote for the camping personally.

If he can't change the dates for Turkey, can you change the Devon dates? Wouldn't seem right I know but it would save your son being piggy in the middle and you'd still get your family camping holiday.

I thought this thread was about using a turkey instead of a tent for camping in. It painted a funny picture in my head!!!!

In agreement!!! rise above his pettiness

Also I would much rather stay in a tent than a turkey

He has done this kind of thing before, long story.......... i have given in so many times but do realise that if i said no to my son, it wouldnt be fair on him and i'd have him moping and whinging when we did go to devon. i told ex that i had booked hols but of course he denies any knowledge of it. he says he has paid for the tickets but i doubt it ......... long history of tempting the kids with big promises only to find the actual 'plan' is not quite so....... i will try to alter my hols but that might not be possible cos of work and booking during the summer holidays etc.

I am just so disappointed .......... but who can blame a 12 yr old lad for wanting to go abroad ..........

I asked my 12yr old daughter and I'm afraid she said Turkey too BUT she said great you could get another weeks holiday too with camping.

Ask him to show you the plane tickets with the dates on them so you know when you can rearrange your holiday for.

How about you write down all the dates you have booked holidays then give him a copy so it's in writing and he can't deny knowing when you're going in future.

Been there-- my stepkids dad did the same, many times- so we would change things to suit him- then he'd cancel at the last minute, or fall ill. or something. In the 9 years their parents have been separated hes taken them to skeggy once, and came back after 2 days because he got in a drunken fight.

i've done the listing holiday dates etc have done for years.............. believe me there is no one does selective memory like him...........he has taken my son to a youth hostel one year, and as you, 'V8trikemids' he has let them down numerous times. And asking him to show me the tickets would be about as safe as pulling the pin out of  a hand granade then forgetting how to count....with superglue on your fingers.  i will try to change the camping............ once again..........

When you arrange next years hols lie about the dates, then you can smile wryly when he smugly announces his plans for the same time as you

Or organise a surprise holiday, don't tell your son about it until the last minute and tell your ex about it when you get back.  Though my guess is that if it was that simple you'd have done something like that already.

It's a tough one; I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do.
