That sounds like old fashioned fly paper! Providing it doesn't touch your tent it cannot do it any damage (and is harmless to children & pets unless they eat it of course...).
The stuff I've seen comes in little cardboard tubes, you pull out a spiral of sticky paper and hang it up from the end with the tube weighing the other end down. You can get this from old-fashioned hardware shops, or some supermarkets, for a few pennies.
