Actually we were also wondering whether it was worth joining, would have to work out how many nights of camping at their sites we would need to do in order to get out money back,

I don't think you can,but have never tried it. after all the second pitch would be for a non member, and they have different rates for non members I think.
I have only used their temporary holiday sites so far, and they state that extra adults can camp with you at an extra fee provided they are sleeping in your unit.
about 300 yrds...lol as the crow flies, why dont we look for somewhere between you and me, Knaresborough has been recommended to us. on the campsite search looks like a few good ones

Bought loads of games for the kids to play with, just need to find somewhere that also has a field for them to play football, baseball, rounders and we even got some boules, Ian wanted those,

We are members of the C&CC and we recently tried to book for the brother in law and his family at the same time as us but you dont get the discount for non members. However, when you do join you get an introduction leaflet amongst all the books and bits that you can hand out to someone so they can try out a club site at the same rate as a member as a one off.
As far as the membership goes we would say it is worth it even if just for the information and your guide to campsites book that you receive as well as the monthly magazine. The discounts that you get are on more than just the site fee and also cover local attractions and discounts in shops aswell.
We also joined the Forest Sites Club which we found out later is one in the same thing but with less advantages so all in all the C&CC is the one to go for in our opinion.

Just remember as well that booking 2 pitches whether members or non members, when you arrive there is no guarantee they would be next to each other. It depends on how full the site is.
