I put the lightest things in the roof box. The downside of this is that the lightest are often the most pliable which are useful for cramming in the crevices that are left between boxes, crates, etc. However, the base of my roof box begins to bulge if I put in things that are too heavy.

Remember your roof bars will have a weight limit and exceeding this can affect the handling of your car. Rule of thumb is light bulky objects only, like sleeping bags and pillows.

Also don't forget the rear axle weight limit.  It certainly sounds like you've put a lot in the boot. If you have back seat passengers as well, you may be near the limit.

When I pack my roof box I put the folding table in first then the kitchen stand and cooker then all the folding chairs then fill all the gaps with pillows and sleeping bags

Most boxes have a weight limit of 50kg or 110 pounds in old money which is a fair bit of weight really

There was another thread on this in the last day or two.

I know most people say to put light stuff in their, but I prefer to pack the tent in ours, it's much more convenient I find.

We put tent (Khyam ridgipod) - all of , but in seperate bags. Canopy, chairs, square roll up table, stove and some other bits and bobs - picnic rugs, water carrier, etc.

It is pretty much at the max capacity of the box - 50kg, but doesn't impact on the cars handling

We consider the weight. Put the long stuff up there like windbreaks or tables, then get best fit on all the gear to fill every inch of it. Heaviest stuff in the boot, light bulky stuff in the roof box. Empty boot space is useful, empty rofbox space is waste.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.
