found a campsite last week that i thought was ideal for me and the kids about ten miles away from home..was dreaming of spur of the moment nights and weekends !!

google earthed it.....good job i did

was a travellers site....big mobile home types and white vans

although they were advertising as camping after an email i was even offered  a pitch for a tenner a night

!!

Maybe a tad obsessive - but what a good idea

I always check out the campsites we are going to on google earth just to get a look at layout etc - I better not take this next step though or my hubby will have even more reason to say I'm tragic  He already thinks I spend far too much time on this forum and looking at camping equipment websites - especially as we don't even need any more kit!!!!

Google Earth is not all up to date though. It may have been used by travellers or builders a couple of years back and now an empty field is used for camping. If it is close enough it may be worth checking out in person.

Our street on Google Earth shows our neighbours moving out...that was August 2007 so well over two years old!

I like to have a nosey on Google Maps before I visit a site... Gives a good mental image of how to find it, in rural cases, and how close the nearest boozer is I

I reckon you've got too much time on your hands if your paintshop pro'ing to see the best way to pitch...

Websites where you can get good aerial pics:

www.rightmove.co.uk - just put the place where you want, choose a random house from the list and then click on the map view of it, change to aerial and zoom in and it has a 'birds eye view' feature which is good

Google maps - sometimes gives more up to date and clearer pictures than google earth

Bing (used to be Virtual Earth)

Some areas are still 'fuzzy' but they have updated since the recent launch of Google Streetview (brilliant for nosing lol)

Perhaps we could have a 'tent view' soon.........or even a campsite view.......

How did you get the pics of the tents on the pitch in the photo, and if the 2 white squares are the kitchen tents, whats the other one in the left hand corner.

Another thing , only recently from one of your other posts showing your setup, I realised you were valbarleys friend, I had somehow got it in my head that you were her hubby , sorry, probably just because of the same tents and the matching dogs i guess
