Taking my first camping trip this week where I know there will be a downpour for days!!! Having never camped in that kind of weather, any suggestions for it not ruining a holiday?
Wet weather gear is a camping essential - means that you can go walks in the rain etc. Something to do inside. Books, radio to listen to (on low so as not to disturb everyone else), card games etc.

We tried that at Park Foot in Cumbria where it pee'd it down for 36 hours straight, rain hammering on a tent is bloomin' loud.. you won't disturb other people with your radio as all they will be able to hear is.. well, rain hammering on their tent !

I love the sound of rain on my tent. Sitting inside knowing I am warm and dry and cosy makes me feel like I have cheated the weather Gods.
Rain is a fact of life for British campers so embrace the downpours and enjoy the opportunity to spend quality time either alone or with your family away from most of the distractions of modern life.

We are off to the north of Scotland next week and the forcast was for rain, rain and more rain. It does seem to be improving as time goes on but I wouldn't let it put me off. All I ask for is for it to be dry while we pitch camp and dry while we break camp. Anything other than that and I don't care! I've got three books packed already plus plus the cards and games!
Firstly in our experience the reports are never hugely accurate and heavy rain has often turned out to be occasional showers! Make sure you have good waterproofs and enjoy.....nothing beats the sound off rain on a tent! Just make sure you take bags to keep wet clothes away from dry etc and layers to keep warm as it can get cool on an evening if its been raining all day.
