Can you just go to an area and find a campsite without booking?

This year I've been made a single parent and also redundant, I found a new job but only work on Saturdays for now, so this leaves me weather permitting free to for almost all of the 6 week holidays.

I don't want EHU, I could ring a few I guess, but then there are always those little sites in the middle of nowhere that must be able to squeeze you in, so do you all book in advance or can you always find a few days away?

I book in advance because I couldn't cope with the stress of hoping to get in. However there are sites that do not take bookings so it's first come gets the pitch. There are also other sites that will only let you on if you pre book.

I would say that if you ring round the area you are interested on the day you want to go or the day before you may well find something but the very popular sites will probably be full

As purplebean says, a lot of the popular sites will already be fully booked, especially during the 6 week summer holiday.

There will be some sites that have pitches available but it would be best to ring around and check before setting off - you don't want to travel miles and then find no room at the inn!!!!

Alternatively you could join the C&CC (if you haven't already) and try using their CSs which are for members only. Or join them at some of their meets and rallies (they offer very good value for money)

North Yorks is where my eldest dd wants to go, she went on a school trip earlier in the year and wants to go back, I will have a look at those thanks :-)
