We are total newbies to camping and have booked our first night under canvas. Its on the 25th July at welsummer harrietsham. Its only about 1/2 an hour away from home so ideal for a one nighter. Im just really hoping that we all enjoy ourselves.

Im also hoping that there will be some other children about, because although my two get on well too much time together can cause arguments..

I also cant wait to have a real bonfire, not too sure how to cook on it though but im definetly going to get some marshmellows. (When i was a kid we had an open fire in the living room and used to cook them on there and i remeber they tasted great!!)

I just need to make a list what to take, not wanting to take too much as its only one night though.

I have already started looking at longer trips am thinking 4 nights in the isle of wight at the end of august...

p.s Thanks to everyone who replied to my post last night about finding a tent it was a great help..

Well done, I'm sure that the kids will have too many new things to do/see to have chance to argue.

I just need to get all the stuff we need now....

I have been given a tent from a family friend so that has saved us alot, Its only a cheapo one but it has 2 rooms and a seperate living bit. Not sure if it will keep us dry though.

Im going to try and save up for a half decent one before our trip to isle of white but this one is giving us a taster of camping.

Worth getting some decent sleeping bags too! My son froze in his cheapo tesco one bless him! lol He now has a decent Vango one like my other two kids17

I am sure the kids will have a great time and will burn off soo much energy that they'll have none left to argue with each other, mine don't and they then sleep like babies!!

I think the only time my 3 kids don't argue, is when we go camping! It must be the lack of things to fight about - hope your trip goes well and you enjoy it 17

I remember our first time camping my youngest was about 18 mths old,a 9yr old and 11yr old,i was dreading it and to my surprise we all thoroughly enjoyed it,the kids didnt argue once and they slept better in the tent than at home and i felt so relaxed even OH was chilled out.Weve been hooked ever since, well becoming more obssessed l.o l
