We have two tents, a small Vango that just about sleeps 4 and a new Michigan L - size in brochure says it takes 465 x 645.

We've checked with our site that the size is OK, but what is the norm here? Many campsites don't seem to show the size of the pitches. How much space can you normally count on - bearing in mind that you need space for the car as well? France and UK.

I think it varies from site to site,i`ve seen some that are 7x7m and some that are`nt bothered. If you ring or e-mail,thats the best thing i think.I always look at the pics of the site to see their set up and what tents are in the pics, though i do find if its a caravan site you get loads of the vans and hardly any of tents!!!!!!!!!

Just as a note, does the pitch size include guy ropes or is it just the tent?

We are booked into an 8x6 pitch and the tent is 350 x 740 im not sure how far the lines go out and am now worried that we will be charged extra for the pitch!

Tent pitch sizes vary so always best to check.

I looked at a site and it said tent over 6m must have 2 pitches but no mention of caravans over that length !!!!!!

The pitch size given by sites is usually the total area of space you will have available.
You need to add a metre on in each direction to the tent's footprint size to get the overall pitching area needed.
For your tent you need a pitching area of at least 550cm x 940cm

You need to check with the site, if they have marked pitches and you can't fit in what are you going to do?

Often the restriction is to provide a firebreak between units and so guyropes in there are OK.

Give them a call with the proper measurements or you might end up in trouble!
