we usually cook at the side of the tent but it has been known for us to use our 2 ring burner just inside of the tent when the weathers bad (also gives a bit of much needed heat when its colder)
We got a utility tent for the same reason,we have twins that are 20mths old and we were using the canopy to cook, and i too was on pins which isn`t helpful. We have the outdoor revolution outhouse xl and it`s brill,it takes up no more room than a sleeping bag, takes 10min to put up,we have the Hartford xxl and have just got the Maryland and will be using it with that too, safety is paramount when it comes to kids, you go ahead and get it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kazzy - someone who feels the way I do! Hubby thought I was alone on this one - now I can show him another mum with the same view as me! Have you ever been charged extra for it onsite?
We have just purchased the Khyam Quebec Deluxe and after reading these threads are a little worried about pitching another tent on the same plot as the large "main" tent and being charged additionally for the utility tent. I know that safety is a paramount however it is the weigh-up question. Do you cook in the door/porchway, canopied windbreaker against a separate utility tent, which inevitably could cost you more.
Other campers experiences would be gratefully received.
We use a Cabanon PN20 Utility tent for cooking duties, it's a Cotton Canvas gem, and takes up almost no room when packed, the steel poles go in the pole bag for the main tent, if you look closley you can just about see it in my gallery (2009 pic) it's great for all the cooking gear and foodstuffs, and frees up the main tent. I don't think any sites would charge extra for a Utility tent, as it is an extention of the main tent, unlike a pup tent etc, which may attract an additional charge as folk can sleep in them.
was thinking about getting the double Outdoor revolution, but will look silly with my starcamper 3 (doubt much difference in size) so i'm just going to get a loo tent to cook in
The outwell alabama is a matching utility tent for the indi (although most are in sage, you might be abe to get a blue one) if you are worried about matching kit.
We managed to get a bargain Cabanon PN20 like the one Francais has, and although quite small (I'm 5'7" and it's on my head!) it's just right for the stuff we put in there. We use it with our Norfolk Lake, which is a similar size to the indi, and dont get charged more for using it. I like to keep all the kitchen stuff away from the kids.....they know not to go in there, and it keeps our porch for boots, bikes and sun lounging!!
I'd go for the cotton outdoor revolution XL from caravanstuff 4 u wweb site, as I'd feel safer cooking under cotton rather than plastic.

Here's ours (although in my garden being used as a pretend sleeping tent!!)
