Volvo V50....not a massive boot for an estate, but room for a longer roof box.
And I love it
Ahhh, now that's a coincidence. I was looking at V70s, but Mrs M would have a baa of it though - thinks the V70 is too boxy. Likes the V50 though....but it's a bit too small for my lot. 6 of us and 2 dogs! Sooo, we're going a bit posh and looking at the Merc C class estates - 5 years old are coming up reasonably cheap, and I've spoken to a couple of people who are happy to take our Citroen and my Nissan both together in p/ex!
Wonder if we've drifted off topic enough - LOL!

How deep was the gravel? If it's several inches deep, the best way is to scrape the gravel away from where you want to put the peg, then whack yer peg in (angle ones work well) before pushing the gravel back over the peg.
We pitched on gravel a month ago for the 1st time, and it was actually fine. I was really worried before too, but it didn't bother us at all. The tent was a lot cleaner inside, although obviously the floor inside the tent was harder (we dont have carpet). My friend used the pegs that looked like ten inch nails, with plastic on top. Sorry dont know the name. We used long plastic ones, and they nearly all broke.
Re. the pegs described - we have the Pyramid rock pegs (come in a tough zipped bag and even with claw hammer if you want). There are also luminous versions too. The plastic tops can break with time but doesn't stop them working. We use them as standard with our tents - don't really bother with others now (although take some with us, just in case the ground type requires them).
assuming you are pitched on a gravel/hardcore base, and you are using rock pegs for the main guys, then what type of pegs do you use for the rest of the tent? more rock pegs? or do the wire or plastic ones work ok for the edges of the tent?
We use rock pegs for everything - can't see any point in not doing so. They fit where pin pegs and V pegs would go. Not had any problems yet, while we had plenty of other pegs coming loose in bad weather...
Right we've got an all weather pitch at Fforest Fields in July/August, now I'm concerned about pegs, hadn't given it a thought! We've bought a footprint for our new Gelert Corvus as not had a SIG on a tent before, will we need more protection do you think? Katie says it's pea gravel and quite smooth.
------------- May/June - Spring Valley
Aug/Sept - Leekworth
I'd want more than a footprint groundsheet. We have pea gravel back home and while we've put up a tent to dry on it with a tarp underneath we wouldn't dare walk into the tent. Even if its smooth, its excellent at hiding sharp thorns and other nasties in it. Not all the stones will be round either. I value the footprint nevermind the SIG.
Pea gravel also shifts alot under foot when you walk on it, so I'd expect that stoves and tables etc may need checking from time to time to make sure that they are still flat. May be someone who has used the same pitches may be able to say how they fared. I wouldn't be sure what type of pegs would hold if the pea gravel is of any depth...
